“Monitor alone is worth the visit”
Reviewed July 23, 2013 via mobile

We visited for a special after hours "Night at The Museum" dinner and facility tour and could not have been more pleased. The story of the Union Monitor and CSS Virginia ironclad is fascinating and the ongoing recovery and preservation of the Monitor makes for many cool historical exhibits. Then there's several other large exhibits of the Titanic, incredibly detailed ship models, even photography. A great way for adults and children to spend 4 or so hours.

“A Great Day- Out Adventure!”
Reviewed July 20, 2013

I’m so pleased we visited the Mariners Museum and happily recommend it to you! Plan 3 + hours for this venue.

As many reviewers have already mentioned there is something for everyone here! From historical artifacts to model ships, archaeological expedition adventures to salvaged wreckages, ancient war ships to those which changed the course of history - its all here!

We really enjoyed the entire museum! The Monitor segment was especially interesting.

My recommendation would be to know a little about the Monitor and Ironsides before you arrive. I found the organization of displays here to be somewhat confusing as to the historical order. It was a small issue and which was resolved.

The Mariners Museum is a great day out adventure for the entire family!

“Planned for a one hour visit, stayed three!”
Reviewed July 19, 2013

We originally scheduled one hour to spend at this museum and ended up spending three! Apart from the USS Monitor exhibition, I really enjoyed the Ansel Adams photo exhibit, the Titanic display, and the "Rescue Me" gallery where you can sit inside a to scale Titanic life boat. For terrific photos, don't miss the figure heads from the ships.

“Fabulous Museum”
Reviewed July 17, 2013

Discover everything about maritime since man first enter the seas. So much to see and learn at this Museum. Watercraft from around the world, everything from the Cuban refugee boats, Titanic, stories of survival, to the history of the U.S. Navy's role in defending our country. The story about the Ironclads and full size Monitor replica gives any civil war buff a great day of learning. Lots of history, hiking trails, a must see for a day!

“So much to see”
Reviewed July 14, 2013 via mobile

Was very impressed! Did not expect the museum to be so expansive, so set aside a good 2-4hrs. Loved the international sailboats collection, and of course the gardens and monitor exhibit. Will be returning frequently!
