We stopped in at the Mariner's museum a few weeks ago. I was somewhat dismayed that the Chesapeake portion of the exhibits was closed down but the other exhibits did not disappoint. The trip was inspiring enough to get my steam box fired up and another good handful of ribs steam bent for my next boatbuiding project. The film on the raising of the Virginia turret was also a pleasure to see again. The survivors exhibit was also nice. We toured it on the fast track with a two hour investment.

You have to read the brochure. The replica USS Monitor, the CSS Virginia, the section devoted to Nelson and age of sail. I visit this place whenever I'm there over the weekend.

The Mariner's Museum is a real piece of history that everyone should see. The latest exhibit of the Ironclad Monitor is something to see. If you want to learn a lot about the history of the area where the country began go to the Mariner's Museum.

I addition to all the previous positive comments, I would only add that you should plan on at leats half a day to take in everything this place has to offer. Also, the snack place was very good. We will be back.
