“Excellent value chalet just outside of Meribel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 6, 2012

Just returned from staying in Chalet Phoenix with 10 other friends. We had a fantastic time from the moment we arrived. Our chalet hosts were wonderful, nothing was too much trouble. As well as cooking delicious food they were able to offer advice on local amenities, where to eat out, snow conditions etc. We all ate exceptionally well - even with the skiing I'm sure we'll all have put on some weight!

The chalet itself is in the centre of the village a short walk from the bus stop, and slightly further to the gondola lift (you can pay to leave skis/boots in Meribel and if you intend to use the gondola this is probably sensible). The bathrooms are all new and have been done to a high spec. It is quite a steep climb up the stairs to the uppermost bedrooms, and being in the attic we did have to contend with a sloping roof (hit our heads a few times). However, to get something at this price in the Three Valleys is amazing, and to have such lovely food and service more than makes up for it. We would all happily return, and if we have more people will opt for another of Ski Blanc's chalets in Les Allues.

Chalet old, cute with charm and good location in village but chalet itself needed a lot of attention. Tiles in bathrooms and kitchen loose, dirty and in need of replacing, cleaning, regrouting. Food was dire! Nothing like Ski Blanc promote on their website. I will never return to Ski Blanc, they are the worst chalet company I have ever been with.

We stayed with Ski Blanc in Les Allues, Meribel, over New Year 2006. The village is lovely if you are happy staying somewhere small and quiet, ideal for those who like a chalet-based holiday and for families. It's a 20-minute or so ride up the gondola to the ski centre and nightlife at Meribel from this base, but the accommodation is of course much cheaper lower down, which is good. Our chalet with Ski Blanc was an old style chalet, lots of creaky wooden stairs and quirky sloping rooms, which we usually prefer, but it needed some essential DIY in the bathrooms and kitchen to bring it up to an acceptable standard for the money they charge. Also, do not for a second believe you will get anything like the mouth-watering catering championed in the Ski Blanc brochures and website, the food was the worst chalet catering we've ever had, including that at Thomson and Neilson chalets never mind privately owned! We wrote to the owners on our return but they never bothered to acknowledge, so I imagine the catering problems are still there. So,we'd recommend the village (and the la Tsaretta restaurant) but skip the Ski Blanc experience, there must be better chalets there.
