“Hotel Apartment in centre of Meribel and one minute walk to the slopes.”
Reviewed February 25, 2013

The apartment was very clean and reasonably spacious. For a family that would normally require three separate hotel rooms this one apartment ticked all the boxes.

The main problem with the apartment, however, was there was only one toilet. There were two bathrooms (one as an en-suite for bedroom 2).

Being an apartment you are responsible for taking out your own rubbish. There is no traditional chute. Instead you have to take the rubbish about 30 meters up the road to the municipal bins. You also need to sort your rubbish.

There is a cleaning service on Wednesday when the towels will be changed. Be careful about this as there is no washing machine and if you run out of towels before cleaning day you will need to pay to change them.

I stayed here for one week and the hotel is part of a larger hotel complex- consisting of La Chaudanne, and L' Eterlou hotels. The rooms are cosy and traditionally decorated. There is only a small handheld shower head in the bathroom so be prepared to feel the cold!

The hotel lounge and restaurant are impressive and the food is great. The hotel staff are professional and a pleasure to deal with.

The main advantage of this hotel is its proximity to the chairlifts and gondolas at Meribel centre. You can be first on the slopes each morning!

Positioned next to the main ski lift area in the centre of town the Eterlou ticked all our boxes. The staff were helpful, the room was clean and there were plenty of additional facilities within the hotel such as pool and sauna. Of course, it wasn't cheap but nothing in th Alps is!

It was not as if we were not forewarned, the rooms are small, but we were there for the skiiing and actually how much time do you spend in the room?

Ours was on the 5th floor and in the eaves of the roof so although the room was said to be 22msq you could only stand upright in about a third of it! I seemed to spend an awful lot of time at the front desk - there was no shower and the bath plug didn't fit properly, this was never fixed, the electric plug next to the boys bed was coming off the wall, housekeeping was a little sloppy.

The breakfast and their staff over in La Chaudanne were excellent, but the bar in L'Eterlou was cold and unwelcoming, the warmest room being the pool room at the back of the bar where I could read the papers and the boys could play pool. Everyone must have complained because the heating was increased by the end of the week - but surely if you want guests to sit around and drink then you have to make the atmosphere conducive?

Finally. it was very expensive and frankly far from being value for money.

Small rooms, has safe, balcony, overall i enjoyed (pricey but good) fantastic location, less than a 5 min walk to the main lifts. The bars are also on 10 mins out. Small rooms, cosy, it has a sauna, steam room and outdoor pool (be careful using the pool, no rubber mats so if you not careful you could slip on the ice and have nasty knock to the head), also there is a bar just outside the pool so you may have few lookers.

I reported the slippery floor to the Hotel so hopefully they will do something about it.nice Bar and very helpful and informative staff. ther is a game room for the kids as well. There are also 3 other hotels linked, the Chaudanne is also nice and has a sauna on the 1st floor, also has a bar and decent restaurant, serves hot breakfast and food isnt too bad either, i also believe there is a pool room in the 3rd hotel.

Ski Equipment
Let me tell you about the Chaudanne Sport, two words Simply Awesome! Phillipe and his wife are the best! These guys take care of you, help you take your boots off even if they are not rented, good range of skis and offer good advice just make sure your honest about your ski levels, ive seen folks saying they are intermediate, get giving good skis and end up stacking it because they cant handle the level of skis giving.

Slopes
Meribel Valley is so big, this time around i didnt bother getting 3 valley pass, last week in Jan was the best, got snow, was very very cold but the conditions where second to none. Also i found the locals to be very friendly and everyone was in good spirits, or perhaps it was me :-)

Room Tip: get a room that isnt facing Jacks bar! Stay away from room 552, its up in the loft and very pokey

We stayed here with our 3 sons for New Year week,(having stayed across the road at Hotel Chaudanne in Feb 08) our main reason being location to lifts. The apartment was 2 bed and well appointed with one en-suit and a seperate bathroom. Check-in was a little confusing with the staff directing us to the wrong floor first and then directing us to the wrong place for the ski lockers. That said the accomodation was clean and comfortable with a large balcony over the main street. The apartment came wih an open log fire place, which proved to be pointless as to use it required the adjecent patio door to be open to provide a draft or the room filled with smoke, we only tried it once! So it's a good place to stay and if you want a good cooked b'fast go to the the Evolutuon bar beside the pool, expensive but worth it. There is also a nice little pizza place beneth the apartments well worth a visit for pizza / itilian dinner, but book early evening as it gets very busy. The one thing we did not like was the note slipped under the door advising us that the management would deduct €106 from our credit card if we did not clean the apartment when checking out which seem to be a con really. We cleaned the place and they then charged us € 36 check out tax.

Whilst our apartment had carpets througout, clearly the one above us did not and was occupied by traditionalists from Holland, day and night, clack clack clack!
