Le Mas del Sol
Ranked #3 of 15 Bonnieux B&B and Inns
Reviewed July 15, 2013

You plan your once-in-a-lifetime trip to France Provence. So many hotels and B&Bs to choose from... “Where should we stay?”

Le Mas Del Sol (house of the sun) will be absolutely an excellent choice. Le Mas Del Sol offers deluxe accommodations in a perfectly designed house, equipped with all the amenities you expect and could imagine. The property is located in the heart of Provence’s Luberon area, 10 minutes away from the charming village of Bonnieux, right in the middle of vineyards and fruit groves. You are within daily excursion drive to the most beautiful villages of Provence.

Lucine and Richard are the owners of the house. Lucine will take care of your accommodations and will make them perfect every day. Richard is a gourmet chef, and you will taste his delicious and perfectly presented breakfasts every morning, at the swimming pool patio or at the tastefully decorated dining room.

The house has 5 rooms/mini suites. Each room or mini suite is uniquely decorated with a different French theme. They all are extremely comfortable, and would fit parties 2-8. Visit the property internet site www.mas-del-sol.com to choose the accommodations that suit you best.

I wholeheartedly recommend Le Mas Del Sol!

Best part of our few days in Provence! After wandering through picturesque Gordes, hiking the red, dusty hills of Rousillion, and climbing the steps of Bonnieux, you, too, will gawk in awe at this oasis of rest and beauty. Le Mas del Sol boasts recently renovated B&B facilities (just completed in 2009) nestled among cherry trees and a vineyard. I was stunned by the view from the main patio (where breakfast is served).

The owner explained that the rooms are kept cool by a system that pumps cool water under the floor (same system heats the pool). So, it is quieter than air conditioning, and far more ecologically friendly. I appreciated this value for preserving the beauty in the environment around them, but I am often hot when I sleep, so I was concerned about the lack of air conditioning. Rest assured, I slept very well... in July!

The room was very nice - very large bathroom, separate toilet (genus!), a lot of space for vanity (separate from the sink) and a shower area separate from the bathtub. I felt like I was at the spa! And, with two occupants in the room, it didn't feel like we were in each other's way. The only thing I might have wished for was a fan - for air circulation. (The bugs outside made leaving the windows open out-of-the-question.)

Breakfast was delicious. The owner is not just a terrific B&B manager, but he is a chef who makes his own yogurt, cooks the eggs to your preference, and home-makes the jams (jellies). The coffee was excellent (and I'm picky about this).

There is a lot of beauty to admire in this setting - the hills, the lavender fields, the stars at night... but this oasis is the perfect base to admire them all from. Over a cheery, home-made breakfast, I was already thinking about when I can next come and stay. Next time, it will be for a week!

(It's a little hard to find, but not if you pay good attention to the signs. Every major nearby junction had a sign directing us right to the gate. We had no trouble finding it.)

We stayed for 8 nights at the end of May and were so glad we had the time to explore the area and enjoy the accommodation. Lovely little hilltop villages - our favourite was Lacoste, and all in quite a compact area. The accommodation at Le Mas del Sol - what can I say? It is a very special place and we had a lovely, spacious room, "Bacchantes", with a fantastic bathroom and dressing room and the choice of 2 patios! Lucine and Richard are fantastic hosts, with Lucine very unobtrusively refreshing our room twice a day, and Richard cooking great breakfasts and answering our many queries about local eateries, places of interest etc. They leave you very much to your own time but are always around if needed and nothing seemed too much trouble for them. Everything was kept beautifully clean and well looked-after, including the garden and grounds. We made good use of the outdoor kitchen for snacks and light meals and eating on the terrace was a real pleasure, though we only managed one outdoor breakfast as it was so windy almost every day. That was our only disappointment during such a wonderful stay. I would love to go back, especially when the lavender is in bloom. Maybe....!

Room Tip: Bacchantes is on the lower floor, very spacious and comfortable, and looking out on to a terrace and...

Fantastic, relaxing place. Nearby Bonnieux has some of the best restaurants we've ever eaten in, and we're from New York! The family who owns Le Mas del Sol are wonderful, speak English, and cook a great breakfast.

Loved our stay. Travelled with our 2 year old daughter and found the family room (2 actual rooms) huge and very comfortable.

Loved the breakfasts, the pool and overlooking the vineyards and lavender fields from our room.

A shame it was a bit too cool to enjoy the pool!

Would definitely recommend to others.

We stayed 4 nights at the Mas del sol and we really had wanted to find a place from where we could discover most of the Luberon in a relatively short time. Le mas del sol proved to be the best choice. It is not more than 20-30 minutes away from L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue on the west or le Colorado provençal on the east. Some of the famous villages are even closer, like Ménèrbes, Lacoste or Gordes. The house itself is gorgeous, with great views to the nearby villages. The rooms are large and spotlessly clean, the breakfast plentiful. The young owners, Lucine and Richard, have just the perfect balance between being friendly, helpful and being "invisible". A really good choice for everybody.
