“beautiful setting, extraordinary food”

This is a great place for a high end off the beaten path vacation. The view down to the town is spectacular particularly at sunset. We stayed in a lovely room with a loft and kitchenette and private terrace. Breakfast pastries were brought to our room every morning and we could eat inside or out. There is an option for breakfast down at the hotel as well. There is a large lap pool which we did not use because it was too cold but which would be wonderful in the summer. We had two dinners in the gourmet restaurant and thoroughly enjoyed both. The restaurant manager was a woman named Daulphine(not sure on the spelling) who was very attentive and gave us a lovely table. There were lots of little tasty treats thrown in between courses. Dinner was quite expensive so be prepared. The highlight of our stay was a full day cooking class with Cyril, the chef in charge of daily preparations. We picked herbs from the hotel gardens and then set about making many of the dishes we had eaten in the restaurant earlier in the week. That night we ate what we had prepared.
If you have a rental car(strongly suggested) it is an easy drive to many small towns in the Provence area. I also liked walking most afternoons to Bonnieux which had an eclectic mix of stores and where some knowledge of French would be helpful (I liked that the town seemed more authentic than touristy).
There were a few challenges, for example the bathtub leaked and it never got fixed during our stay. Also, we were told the cooking classes had been cancelled as we checked in but ultimately we were able to arrange for the full day lesson.

Room Tip: The rooms in the hotel proper are quite expensive. Our room with terrace and loft was less expensive...

My partner and I came here for a treat "splurge in France" meal the last night of our stay in Bonnieux, The food was great, but the service ruined our experience. Early in the day, I had requested reservations for 9:00, and I received an email, stating that I was confirmed for 9:30, which was fine.

We arrived at promptly 9:30, and there was no record of our reservation (I did show the confirmation on my phone). We were asked to wait in the salon with a menu and a few amuse-bouches. Abruptly, someone came by to ask if we were ready to order (we were seated on couches with a coffee table). When I saw the manager, I asked her if we were expected to eat in the salon. She replied that we would eventually be seated in the restaurant, but we needed to hurry up and decide because last orders were to be taken at 9:45 (it was 9:42).

We ordered and were sent to the restaurant by Yolande, before I finished my wine (with no offer to take it into the dining room). She continued to serve us and treated us with cold and rudeness.

Because of the discomfort and unwelcomeness we felt, we made the conscious decision to only order 1 course and not stay around too long. (Was it because my Citicard is only gold and not platinum??). I'm disheartened to say that the experience was actually stressful, and while I tried to stay polite, only conversing in French, my partner's feelings of "this is a stereotypical rude French restaurant" became true. He did say to me, "everything has been incredible until this meal."

However, I do want to know that the man who took our wine order and continued refilling glasses was very, very nice.

We stayed in April for 5 nights with our 7 year old son whilst exploring the area. The positives were that the position and architecture of the hotel are fabulous, particularly the view over Bonnieux, and the food was good. The negatives, the maître d'hôtel was not friendly at all, we asked them to mend the shower/bath diverter on day one and it had not been fixed when we left 5 days later, the wifi was useless and we were charged €22 per day for our son's breakfast (a half eaten bowl of cereal) no negotiation possible, the room was not all that spacious, in this modern age no overhead shower and the pillows were not comfortable.

Not exactly blown away!

The food is worthy of the 2 Michelin stars. The wine list is extensive. Expect prices accordingly.
The service could be a notch better, it gives an amateur feeling at this level. Breakfast is all right as there is more than just croissants and café au lait. Tea from tea bags - a detail which could be improved. The bright dining room is nicer in the morning than in the evening.
Wifi in the room did not work.

Domaine de Capelongue is just a wonderful place to stay. The location on the hills ensures fantastic panorama. Dinner was great as was the breakfast, with homemade bread, juices, great variety. Spacious room. Nice pool area. Friendly staff. Overall, a picture-perfect place in the heart of the Luberon.

Sometimes you just want a small well run hotel, a place to take a morning and afternoon swim and a wonderful locally inspired meal to end the day.

Service both in the restaurant and in the hotel was careful and representative of the region. No one was trying to be something they were not. Service for the most part was intuitive and this impressed me. Others could confuse this with inattentiveness.

The details down to the staff uniforms were sublime. Again a homage to the area you are in. Don't think too hard because they already did. For the most part the people serving were more sophisticated that the ones being served.

The annex was interesting and to some degree innovative in its approach. The main building was more country chic. The room was comfortable and well kept. Air quality and sleep quality was perfect. We slept with the windows ajar, the split HVAC system I preferred off to keep noise levels to a minimum.

The location is ideal.

The restaurant prepared a perfect breakfast in the form of a buffet. We dined twice in the evening. It was one of the most memorable. The menu was of considerable effort and dishes were complex yet flavours and ingredients remained pure in form, although quite elevated. We were impressed.

A magnificient view on the lovely Bonnieux village at the top of the hill. Stay in the Ferme de Capelongue annex across the road which is perfect for a family with large rooms including a kitchen and several rooms neatly decorated in a modern fashion. The 2 star Michelin restaurant is what this place if famous for though. We did not eat there because we felt that the meals were too pricey but the breakfast we ate was delicious. The entire complex is beautiful with modern style touches of decoration (sculptures in the garden...) fitting well in this Provence style set of buildings.
