My wife and I first visited this establishment in 1997, having read Peter Mayle's ' A Year in Provence' and I would say that it is even better than he described. We have been there for lunch 7 times in July or August and it is always a 'must do' when we are in the region. We do not book, but in order to get a seat 'sur la terrasse' we are always knocking on the door at noon.
For anybody who has not been before it can be difficult to find, but when travelling on the main Apt-Avignon road do not take the first road that is signed left to Bonnieux, but travel about 2 kms further on and exit at the large roundabout, and this establishment is about 1 km further on by the sign 'Gare de Bonnieux.'
What can I say that hasn't already been said - it is unpretentious, but typically French and would be impossible to replicate in the UK. The salad buffet is wonderful, but the main course is always 'le plat du jour', but who cares, I'd pay double just for the wonderful ambience.
