Bonnieux is without a doubt the best base from which to explore the Luberon and the Vaucluse. Although there are plenty of tourists, the town still has a local feel as it lacks the souvenir shops, overpriced galleries, and tour buses seen in Gordes, Rousillon, and Menerbes. And the best place to stay is at Jean-Marc and Marie Laure's Les Terrases, on the edge of town. I can only echo all the superlatives and praise of the previous reviewers. We stayed five days, and enjoyed the guests, the setting, and particularly the hosts, immensely. They take great pride in their establishment and it shows throughout. One day, after discussing Jean-Marc's olive trees with him, he announced that he was inviting all guests the following evening to a get together on the breakfast terrace. The next evening, he and Marie Laure provided his home grown olives, along with cheese tarts baked by Marie Laure, fruit and wine. It was a beautiful evening and thanks to the hosts and other guests, one of the most enjoyable evenings we've had traveling. The rooms are lined up along a terrace overlooking the valley below Bonnieux, with each having a private sitting area opening into the larger terrace. The view alone is worth staying here, but the rooms themselves are very nice. Large and simply furnished, each has had a recent bathroom overhaul (except room 5, which is pending). In our room (4), that included a large, zero entry walk-in shower with a European rain-style shower head. The rooms have full length glass doors that open onto the terrace, allowing ample light, and the bedding (I think Jean-Marc said it was all recently purchased Sealy bedding) was very comfortable. Finally, the location just outside Bonnieux was ideal--very quiet yet only a 5-10 minute walk to the center of town. I can't say enough about Jean-Marc, Marie Laure and Les Terrases and recommend them more highly than any of the 100+ B&Bs my wife and I have stayed in over the years.
