Staying in the Hotel Torias at the port of St Martin de Re was like being on a luxury liner without moving. The rooms in the hotel were spacious , elegant, and had a real soul. Each room was decorated differently and all gave the feeling of peace and space and done by someone with a great deal of taste. The rooms overlooking the harbor gave one the feeling of being in another world. The site, the movement of the tides, the fishing boats, and the smell of the salt air gave us the feeling of such well being.
The team in the hotel were warm, friendly efficient and extremely helpful as to information on local restaurants food markets, as well as sightseeing tips. If you can the suites are glorious and the bathrooms well done. The food for breakfast and dinner was delicious at Le Table D'Olivia

We cannot recommend this hotel more highly and cannot wait to return!

This is a great hotel, positioned as it is overlooking at the harbour. The staff are lovely and make you feel welcome from the word go. The decor is chic and the hotel is immaculate. We had a lovely room called Toiras but to say it had a Harbour View was probable stretching a point. The only thing that let the hotel down was the breakfast. The chef seemed unable to cook a poached egg properly or send out the meals at the same time. In a hotel of this quality we found this very surprising. As a result we did not dine in the evening but we met other guests who did and said it was very good but expensive.

From the second you're greeted at your car by the smiling porter, to the receptionist, to the room, you're treated like royalty and every request is no problem. I was lucky to receive a free upgrade to a room overlooking the port, a very large room with fireplace and a huge bathroom. The only problem was that I was booked for only one night, I will go back for another visit and stay longer. The breakfast room and breakfast was excellent. St Martin de Re was an unexpected surprise, so much to do, shopping, eating, walking and cycling, there's even a ride through vineyards and along the coast amongst the oyster farms. Highly recommend you pay attention to public holidays when booking, I was lucky enough to be arriving at the end of a long weekend and the traffic streamed for about 20 km's going the opposite direction.

Room Tip: Suites face the port are large.

We have just returned from a 7 night break and we were delighted to find that the de Toiras is a friendly and convenient place to stay! The hotel has plenty of character and is situated on the corner of the main quay in St. Martin de Re, overlooking the harbour, shops and cafes. Our room was just right, peacefully situated on the second floor overlooking the harbour with a super king size bed which was incredibly comfortable. The room was spotlessly clean and due to the small size of the hotel, you didn't have cleaning staff crashing around early in the morning.

The service was exceptional. The staff are so helpful - we arrived in the pouring rain having driven for 8 hours to find we couldn't drive up to the hotel as there is a barrier requiring a pin number, therefore we parked in the free car park (Vauban) just down the road and walked. The staff took our keys and went to find the car, brought it to the front and unloaded everything and took it to our room then re-parked the car. It costs EUR 15 per night and is brought to the front of the building when it's required, alternatively you can park in the free car park but it's always busy and the parking is haphazard to say the least. The reception staff spoke very good English and were knowledge and efficient, nothing is too much trouble.

The main reception is also the hotel lounge and is reminiscent of an elegant country house drawing room, with an open fireplace and comfortable sofas. There is no bar but drinks can be ordered and served in the lounge. We didn't eat in the hotel as there are many restaurants and cafes within walking distance and we prefer a more relaxed dining experience but the restaurant looked elegant and welcoming. The hotel is quite small with regards to the public areas and the courtyard garden is not really set up to sit outside and enjoy, this is the only criticism I would have even though you are only steps away from the activities of St. Martin. I'm sure that the small garden could be rearranged as at the moment it has a few tables for breakfast/dining but not much else.

Every afternoon we would return to a treat of freshly baked cakes or biscuits and after returning in the evening, the turn down service was most welcome.

St. Martin is the perfect place to stay to enjoy the island and offers a laid back, friendly atmosphere with many good restaurants and cafes. A continental style breakfast costs approximately EUR 7.80 and an evening meal can range from around EUR 15 upwards plus drinks etc. We had good, friendly service from most of the places we tried and would recommend the fish at Le Skipper or salads and pizzas at good prices from La Phare (always busy). Les Colonnes serve great 'moules and frites' and is only a short step from the hotel. A walk to the church and cobbled back streets is a pleasure and through the park and the Vauban fortifications leads to the small sandy beach. The market is open every day and has the freshest produce, great for picnics etc.

All in all, we loved the hotel and St. Martin and appreciated the effort everyone went to to make our stay perfect.

Room Tip: Second floor at the front is a good spot (room 21) as it only has a small window overlooking the har...

The level of service was exceptional. Due to travel difficulty, we didn't arrive at Toiras until well after midnight. Stephanie waited for us well past her time to go home and warmly welcomed us. She showed us our room and then rustled up a plate of cheese and fruit for our "dinner." This helped transform a disastrous travel day into a warm welcome that remained for the duration of our stay. This may have been the best hotel experience we have had. Bravo!

I stayed for 2 nights early in May 2014. As many people have pointed out the hotel location could not be better and the staff and level of service received was simply outstanding.
That said there are a few things to point out:
• I could not simply drive up to the hotel as the route is blocked with an entry system. I first had to leave my car and take a short walk to the hotel. I was then given a code for this system.
• The hotel itself is not very large and the room I had, whilst being perfect for my needs, was rather small and a little gloomy. (I had a room on the first floor overlooking the tiny garden.)
• There are only about 6 tables in the dining area and on one evening I noted that the staff had set up two dining tables in the lobby area of the hotel to accommodate everyone that wanted to eat during the evening.
• The hotel is not cheap by any standards but you do get what you pay for!
Even given the above I would still highly recommend the hotel. As mentioned the staff seem to go out of their way to be helpful and nothing is a problem. The location is simply sublime; a step outside the door and you are in the pretty harbour area of St. Martin de Ré. I stayed on a half board package with the evening three course meal being a set menu without any choice. As I am an adventurous eater and a lover of fresh fish this was of no issue to me. The quality of the food served was simply outstanding. (I found it amazing to watch the chef prepare such high quality food in a kitchen that is literally the size of a postage stamp!) Perhaps if you are not willing to risk a set menu without choice then this half board package is not for you. There are plenty of splendid looking restaurants literally yards from the door of the hotel so there would not be an issue finding somewhere to eat à la carte. Again I should mention I was there in early May; things were reasonably lively and busy but I could well imagine in high season that the location would be very crowded indeed.
All told a wonderful couple of nights spent at this hotel that I would be happy to return to and to recommend if you are not worried about the pennies.

Room Tip: If you can afford it go for a room with a harbour view. The “garden” is in a tiny courtyard and the...
