First the hotel has a great location and very good facilities with pool jacuzzi etc.. Nice ocean vews from the room, modern fixtures and fittings, nice big comfortable bed... Now some parts can feel a bit dated with paint peeling of the walls and dammaged floors but you can overlook that. Unfortunatelly you cannot overlook the cheap nasty toilet paper and the lack of good toiletries; you find better stuff at a budget Ibis most of the time. We were given internet codes for our different devices but by 11pm it was not working anymore until we left the next day at 11am. Why not be honest and let your customers know in advance you don't have a reliable source of internet. The room costing 300 Euros it seemed a bit overpriced. You can get the same facilities and an executive room with ocean vews in the Novotel down the road for 100 Euro less.

Dear Madam, dear Mister,

First we want to thank you for your review. We are happy you enjoyed the location of the hotel and your room.

We are so sorry about your disappointment... We repaint all our rooms and communal areas this winter. We chose a "seaside" style instead of a "70's" style.
If you needed more toiletries you should ask at the reception desk, we can give you much as you want !
Then we know it's difficult to have a good connexion with internet because we are on an island. We are in "zone blanche" and there is no sea side transmitter because it's a natural and protected area.

Anyway, we hope you had great time on the island of Oléron.
You can come again at the hotel anytime you want, it will be a pleasure to welcome you.

Have a nice evening,

All the Grand Large team

This unique hotel has so much to offer. The beach and miles of walking combined with a great pool. Couldn't find the towels- found out you are supposed to bring them from your room.
We had an excellent meal here with towers of seafood all fresh and so well presented.
This restaurant has an extensive wine list.
A great combination with excellent biking right out front with miles of trails. Terrific views of the ocean and big fat moon.

The hotel offers direct access to the beach and great sea views
The facility is modern, good bathrooms and the windows can open.
Pleasant staff at the reception desk.
Free on site parking.
That is where the good news end.
The hotel restaurant offers good views but not good food.
Unremarkable mackerel appetizer was followed by a tasteless dry white fish.
Only redeeming feature was an excellent cheese platter although only small servings were allowed.
The worse part was the free wifi, totally unreliable, slow and infuriating.

2 days, one night...........well, not really: check in is at 4 pm and check out at 11 am........i have never encountered this and i thought it was a bit too much. Even if they can be a little flexible, it puts some pressure on the weekend that is supposed to be about loosing track of time. This cost them one point in my review. All the rest was just very good: the staff, the room, the location, the pool, the dinner..........Hire one more staff in the season and your guests can check in at 14h and check out at 12h, like in all good hotels.........

We spent a romantic weekend here, and this privately owned boutique hotel lends itself perfectly for such occasions. We had sea view from our room (above the entrance) where the evening sun shines right into your bed.
From the indoors pool one can exist in a bathrobe to the dune and have a walk at the beach.
The included restaurant is first class, and the menu is good value for money.
Highly recommended.
