This is a spacious family home, with a very large enclosed garden with many trees for shade. My six grandchildren, aged 2 to 8 absolutely loved playing in and around the house and on the swings and trampoline (with netting). The house is wonderfully located in the quieter north of the Ile de Re. We hardly saw a car in the vicinity all week, though, admittedly, peak season had not yet started. The quiet roads and cycle tracks made it easy to get all sixteen of us around on bicycles to the many nearby beaches. The nearest, ideal for rock pools, was not much more than 300 metres away.
The quiet and pretty centre of Portes de Re was 5 minutes away by bicycle so shopping was easy. Each morning started with a cycle to the boulangerie for bread and pastries for breakfast. The small market was ideal for local produce and the supermarket was perfectly adequate, though small.
There is no pool but for us this was a good thing with so many young children in a large garden with trees which meant they were sometimes out of sight. The children could play safely without constant supervision. With beaches so close, a pool isn't a necessity.
We had a lovely holiday and all of us will have fond memories of our week.
Fantastic house well equipped for large family groups. Plenty of space to chill inside and out, large patio and garden, table tennis, trampoline and swings. Very close to the beach and the beautiful village of Portes en Re. Lots of local fresh produce available in the market every morning. Cycle tracks all around the Island, amazing salt marsh nature reserve and loads of different beaches to visit. The owner has been really helpful and made us very welcome.
