Average French hotel , the rooms ok and clean and we had a bath tub.
Very central an good position for sightseeing and shops.
Owner spoke good English and was helpful.
Don't bother with breakfast eat out!
Cannot say anything really bad or really good just average!

Room Tip: Upper floors seemed better

Arrived after a hard day in the saddle, we were greeted by the friendly hotel owner, whose English is very good. He showed us a lock up garage for our bikes which was 400m down the road. The hotel is very well located for the town centre shops and restaurants.
My room was on the large size with three beds, bed was fairly comfortable but small. Overall, not bad value for money. Breakfast was good but dining room was cramped for our group.
Room suffered from excess traffic noise in the morning!

Room Tip: Ask for a back room away from the road

This was a family trip cycling up the Somme Valley and exploring the WWI battlefields. We opted to drive to Abbeville and leave the car. The Relais Vauban is exactly what you expect from a classic French hotel. Not glamorous but clean, tidy and very reasonable. There is plenty of free, sheltered, parking just over the road and the host and his wife are pleasant, and very helpful. A good breakfast, but there are plenty of restaurants nearby if you want to explore. The canal path to St Valery-sur-Somme or Amiens is a five minute cycle ride away.

Our room was a three bedded family room which had plenty of space and a perfectly functional en-suite bathroom which featured a bath as well as a shower (essential after long cycling days).

Abbeville is barely an hour by car from Calais and this will be our starting point for future French excursions.

Booked this hotel as a stop-over with my 12 year old son on the way to central France. Seemed like a good location an hour or so from Calais which meant we would be less rushed the following day. We were delayed with traffic and arrived just before 11 pm to find the hotel locked and the phones on a loop message, so effectively switched off. This meant we had to find another hotel (would recommend the Mercure - very helpful and friendly). Visited the Relais Vauban the following day and received a well-rehearsed Gallic shrug and told to read the small print, where it does state check-in by 21:30. He was adamant there would be no refund as it was my fault - got the feeling he has done this before. Pretty shoddy treatment in my view - sharp practice!

Notice at reception saying it was not permitted to view rooms was off-putting and never seen before. Booked in anyway. Not over concerned about the broken toilet seat, but during night light on headboard fell off and woke us with a start. Unable to fix it resulting in little sleep.

Asked for a reduction but told "the price is the price". That was our second and last visit.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back quieter. On the front you can expect a rude awakening.

I visited this hotel in May 2013 to find it was directly on a major traffic island, so was very noisy as the room was too hot and i had to have the windows open; The first thing that strikes you is the 'Greyness' of the room. It has grey lino floors, (come on this is the 21st century), shabby walls and cobwebs everywhere; The bathroom was the size of a shoe box, beds uncomfortable, no toilet paper (i had to go down and ask for a couple of rolls, which i found slightly embarassing. I did not eat there so i have no idea of the standard of the food;....and all for 85 euros a night, thank god i only stopped 1 night; There is very little to do in the town and bars and restaurants closed very early, (around 9 o'clock); The only plus side is it is close to the centre of the tiny town (which does have a nice church in the centre, which was heavily bombed during the war sadly,). When i came to pay in the morning the owner was very grumpy and rather abrupt with us, and i heard him say in French, 'typical English'; He was unaware that myself and my wife can speak fluent French; I am in my fifties so we are not party animals, so i have no idea of his problem; That does not influence the review, i still would not recommend this hotel to my family and friends, nor my cats for that matter...

Room Tip: Our room was very very basic and dirty, so i can not say if there are any good rooms as i only staye...

We didn't plan to stay in Abbeville but our car broke down & we couldn't get it fixed till the next day, the breakdown cover booked the hotel for us so we didn't know where we were staying, upon arrival the owners were very friendly & couldn't help us enough making sure we had everything we needed for our little boy, our room was very clean, tidy & a decent size, they had placed a cot in the room for our son which was very spacious, he slept very well & so did we the bed was very comfy & although our room looked onto the roundabout we weren't disturbed by the road noise at all my parents were in the room next door which was smaller but they were equally impressed, breakfast the following morning was just as good once again the owner couldn't do enough to make sure you had everything you needed the food was lovely & a great start to the day, we hadn't planned to stay here but we would definitely go back again now we have.
