Hotel La Granitiere
Reviewed October 1, 2012

This is a very pleasant hotel, perhaps a little bit overpriced for France but acceptable.

The room we had was very comfortable and pleasant. The bathroom was a good size with a separate shower room.

The locationof the hotel is OK.It is set in a back street but well away from it so is very quiet.

The owner is very chatty and friendly.

Really nice hotel, charming, clean, and really friendly owner , if slightly eccentric.
The room we were given was upgraded without charge, very clean with decent quality furniture.
Rooms service very good and not expensive.
The owner gave us a marked up map of places to eat, we tried one which was very good and value for money.

Room Tip: We had the junior suite which had a seperate Lounge

Due to gales in the English channel, we had to re-route our ferry; we arrived much later than anticipated at 23:00 (Instead of 18:00). Brittany Ferries were great and phoned John-Paul checking that such a late arrival was ok.
When we arrived he met us in the car park, and with the minimum of fuss welcomed us to his hotel. We had a lovely room on the first floor overlooking the front garden.
All was quiet and the bed(s) (Two singles pushed together) were comfortable and crisp clean bedding.... The room was spotless.
We slept well and used the bathroom, which was colourful.
Breakfast was a good spread of yogurts, cheese, ham, French bread, croissants, compotes, jams, juices and of course tea, coffee or hot chocolate....
St.Vaast itself is a pretty little town with a proper French market, well worth spending some time here. As commented by other posters, the owner, John-Paul is a character and really helpful. We hope to return soon to this hotel and stay for longer!

There are many places that you can stay in Normandy, and thankfully this was where we landed. We were here for three great days, and there is no doubt that we will be back.
The owner, John Paul, greeted us as warmly as has been described on this site. Immediately he went through a list of the restaurants in walking distance (we tried three of them) along with an informed commentary about each of them -- he is, like us, a foodie.
We brought our 22 month old son, and John Paul had the crib set up for him when we arrived.
Our room was quite large- well, it was two rooms - and allowed us to spread out a bit. I was delighted to find that in the bathroom there was an American outlet to plug in some of our vast supply of electronics (iphones, ipads, kindle).
The hotel is kept in meticulous order.
The morning breakfast was simple - but ample. With fresh fruits, pastries, yogurt, cheese. What we liked was the coffee. Having spent a few days before in England, where it seemed we could not get a great cup of coffee, we were mindlessly sipping when I looked at my wife and remarked- well, the French know how to make coffee.
This place is a gem - as is the owner. If you find yourself wanting to visit - as we did for the D-day celebrations- this is the place to go.

Room Tip: The larger rooms are always our choice, in any hotel

Once again we have thoroughly enjoyed a three day break at la granitiere --- an extremely confortable hotel --- no evening meal provided but with a wide choice of restaurants in st vaast there seems little point in providing this service as wide selection all within easy walking distance so over indulgenies can be exercised away
The room was excellent and well maintained as always breakfast buffet well presented in relaxed dining room -- very satisfactory
The excellent ratings fuuly deserved
The bonus is John Paul himself in ensuring continuingcustomer satisfaction

We stayed in this hotel and were pleased with the spacious room and big bed (not very common in France). The owner is very helpful with giving all kind of information. A pity that the coffee and tea at breakfast tasted like salted dish water and thatthe croissants were not fresh. Apart from that, everything was perfect. We ate a very good pizza at Fontana dit Trevi (end of the street). Suggestion in the neighbourhood: brasserie Cafe de France in Barfleur!
