“Beware of this fake”
Reviewed June 21, 2010

On the way to the New Market Battlefield Park you will pass this museum. It has a large sign instructing you to buy your ticket ot the New Market Battlefield here. At this private museum they will tell you that there is no battlefield tour and on the way out of their parking lot there is a Right Turn Only sign to keep you from going to the real park. DO NOT STOP HERE but continue down the road to the State run Battlefield Park. While this park is not of the caliper of the National Park Service facilities of Antietum or Appomattox, the movie here is the best!! The Field of Shoes 45 film about the VMI cadets involvement if this battle was great and had many stories not commonly told.

“This museum is a rip-off”
Reviewed May 30, 2010

This is NOT the State park museum that others refer to - it is not sponsored by VMI and does not show the movie "Field of Shoes" This is a private museum that purposely decieves the visitor into believing this is the museum. Keep on going down the road.

“Not a bad museum”
Reviewed October 23, 2007

New Market Battlefield was just okay. Having been to places like Gettysburg, Antietam, and Manassas, I guess I am used to a little more.

The museum iself isn't bad. They try to tell the whole story of the war. I think they'd be better off focusing on the battle itself. It is an interesting story with the VMI cadets.

The battlefield wasn't very impressive. The farm was pretty empty and there weren't a lot of monuments around. The road was also fenced off right past the farm, so we couldn't do our own driving tour. I was happy to see reenactors at the farm, but they were just trying to sell us baked goods and lemonade, not tell us anything.

Unless you have a deep appreciation for the battle, I would probably skip it. If you are a history buff, you should go.
