“DECEITFUL - FAUX REPRESENTATION!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 26, 2012

This place tries to lure you into thinking this is the real new market battle field museum which is a bit further up the road and is not only the real thing but far more professionally done. The woman behind the counter worked far too hard in trying to explain away the real museum and trying to tout hers. She could have just as easily said that both were worth the time and the trip. We suspected a tourist trap and quickly went to the web on our iPhones and found the reviews that you see below. When we walked out without getting tickets, he woman huffed. I was tempted to retort, but did not. The really rich end to our short discovery was getting to the exit where the sign said "right turn only". Really? Trying to fool people into thinking that they saw the real thing at this far less than real exhibit. Folks like these give tourism a very bad name. This is the ultimate tourist trap. I forgot, when you come in, their sign is ever so craftily worded as to make you think that you have to stop their to get tickets. YEAH, THEIR TICKETS TO THEIR MUSEUM! BULLSCHITTE!

“decieving”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 18, 2012

We had planned a stop at New Market battlefield on our way home from vacation, following the signs to battlefield we came across the museum.Expecting a collection of civil war memorabilia from the New Market battle we were very disappointed, what we encountered was a mix of artifacts from all different eras with very little civil war to be found. This is not what it seems, the gentleman at the front desk was trying his hardest to turn us away from the real battlefield museum slightly further down the road,I sure am glad we did not listen to him,the real museum and grounds were much better for civil war history .Do not listen to this man, do yourself a favor and drive a half mile more for a better experience. Definitely not worth the ten dollar admission price.

“Interesting museum”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 7, 2012

We spent several hours here. It is a private collection near the battlefield. Much of it doesn't pertain to the CiviL War. Several displays cover the Confederate navy, Stonewall Jackson, the battle for Vicksburg, and control of the Mississippi river. Each display case has typed notes and an explaination of it's contents. There are numerous fire arms displayed as well as tomahawks, hatchets, knives and swords. As mentioned, a variety of Civil War books & videos are for sale. There is also a section dispalying a variety of toys, which we didn't have time to see. There are also displays through WWII. THere is a lot of reading involved. I'm a history buff. Entry fee was $10 each. AA and military discounts are offered.

“Deceptive”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 12, 2012

We were traveling through the area and wanted to stop at the New Market Battlefield Hall of Valor Museum and New Market Battlefield State Historical Park. This museum is on the same road as the State Historical Park. It is an eccentric museum, but I believe that there was a bit of deception in the signage and the state park shares the blame. It was not worth paying the $10 per person entrance fee to a private museum, where one has no idea of the provenance of the displays, when we ended up paying the same for the museum further up the road.

“A Quirky Experience”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 14, 2012

We were surprised by this museum---expecting it to only house Civil War items. It was an eclectic collection including American Indian, WW I, WW II, Vietnam War, and movie items. The collection is privately owned and apparently not juried. We enjoyed the museum---a very different experience than most museums.
