“Quite worth the stop off I-81”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 5, 2013

The battlefield is right off I-81, 5 minutes off the exit. Well worth the visit. Good 45 minute movie that explains the battle very well. The displays in the museum are just OK, nothing spectacular. But take the time to do the 1 mile or so battlefield walk. You walk right through the 'Field of Shoes' (explained in the movie) and up to the hill the Union troops were on. You get a great feel for the battle by doing the walk. And don't miss the scenic overlook on the way back down that is marked on the map. Great view of the Shenandoah river from way up high. Great hour or so break off I-81.

“VMA's involvement in the Civil War explained”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 4, 2013

A trip to this museum and war sight is worth the time and money. A movie and exhibits present the story of how the cadets of Virginia's Military Academy were involved in the Civil War and what a dear price they paid for that involvement. The movie and self directed tour should not take more than a couple of hours and is worth the entrance fee.

“Amazing museum - battlefield where VMI cadets fought”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 2, 2013

The Visitor's Center has an amazing museum. A must see. After the museum, you can walk the self-guided tour of the battlegrounds and a tour of the farm house that was used as a hospital.

You can learn about the brave VMI cadets that fought here. Be aware that this museum is very pro-Southern in presentation.

Plan to spend only about 2 hours.
