Owner description: Marqueyssac is one of the most beautiful romantic gardens of France and today the most visited garden in Perigord. Listed as a national historical monument thanks to its 54 acres park, Marqueyssac's gardens offer more than 6 kilometres of shaded paths in a maze of 150 000 hand-pruned boxwoods. From the belvedere, at 130 meters above the Dordogne river, you will see the most spectacular panorama in Perigord. This is the testimony of a rich bygone history and a gorgeous natural heritage. It's also an exceptionnal Dordogne valley point of view, you will see its most beautiful villages : Domme, Castelnaud, Beynac, Fayrac, La Roque-Gageac and its castles.

“Fabulous views”
Reviewed October 15, 2013

I think these gardens are more about the views than the plants. The sculptured bushes and hedges are wonderful too see, but there is little variety in plant type throughout the garden. The walk is extensive and easy, though about 6km if you do it all. There is a little car that will bring tired walkers back to the chateau area. The views are fabulous so make sure you walk to all the viewing areas. The cafe is not too expensive and is situated beautifully for admiring the valley and town below. A good range of gifts in the gift shop if that interests you.

“Amazing Formal Gardens with Wonderful Views over the Dordogne”
Reviewed October 8, 2013

My wife and I don't normally like gardens that are too formal. We much prefer wilder, natural, landscapes. But the gardens of Marqueyssac are amazing and like nowhere we have ever been before. We spent the most wonderful day there recently during a trip to the Dordogne region. If you go, don't expect pretty flowers. It is not that type of garden. But prepare to be amazed. Take the little path that runs along the edge of the gardens overlooking the river, and walk right to the Belvedere at the far end. You will love it, and you will be delighted by the great views out over the Dordogne. This is a magical place, not just for garden lovers, but for anyone wanting to see something a little 'different'.

“Wonderful gardens”
Reviewed October 2, 2013

This was out second visit. The gardens are wonderful, especially out of season when we assume they are much less busy. The views from the cliffs and belvedere are outstanding, and we also greatly enjoyed the quiet walk back through woodland before rejoining the gardens. The restaurant is pleasant too, again with lovely views, this time across to Beynac.

“Nice Gardens: Spectacular View”
Reviewed September 29, 2013

The best part of this visit is the trek to "La Belvedere" that is the point overlooking the Dordogne Valley. The view is special in all directions; it is well worth the walk. The gardens around the Chateau are nicely done. Not much as to the Chateau; it is limited. Do this for the view!
