“Centrally located with excellent restaurant”
Reviewed March 23, 2013

We stayed for a week in this small, comfortable hotel, which is in the heart of Wissembourg. It is steps away from the tourist office and an easy walk to all the sites, shops and restaurants in town. The staff are very professional and friendly. The room faced the street (although the hotel is set back from the main road) but it was very quiet at night and we were never disturbed. The room was clean with a stand-up shower, a bit on the small side, but there is a common sitting room available. The free wi-fi was OK but you needed to re-enter your password frequently. The breakfast was adequate but lacked a warm dish. The coffee was very good. The restaurant (reviewed separately) was a pleasant surprise and one of the best in Wissembourg. We found the hotel to be a good value in the area.

hotel was comfortable enough but be prepared for no duvet-blankets only which were very comfortable temperature wise in room,.. no wifi connection on 3rd floor even although they say that there is. no kettle in room. Highlight of stay was the restaurant in hotel. One of the best in the area. Hotel was very central in town and easy access to pubs/restaurants.

Room Tip: if you want a shower rather than bath with room then you must request this on booking, maybe ask for...

This is a small but cosy hotel at the very center of Wissembourg. Our room was in a buiding of the 16th century in front of the main hotel. The room, with two large beds, was at the last floor, and it was clean, not large but very romantic! A couple of timbers were too low for my head, but it was just part of the game :-) The staff of the hotel was very friendly, and the breakfast good.

We flew into Frankfurt, Germany, rented a car and drove to France. At Gruenstadt, we left the Autubahn, and drove along the Weinstrasse, through the beautiful wine villages of Germany. We crossed the border into France at Schweighofen, and were in Wissembourg - Weisenburg on the German road signs - in a few minutes. The Hostellerie au Cygne is in the centre of town - a lovely old building dated from the 1600's. At the moment, four generations of the same family are still there, running this great little hotel. The rooms, all en suite, are very clean and comfortable. Dinner is delicious. We had escargots, mussels, veal and lamb. The meals were beautifully presented, the meat tender and wonderfully seasoned, vegetables fresh and seasonal, and before and between courses there were complimentary soups, sorbets, mousse. Desserts were mouthwatering. And the wine and service were excellent. The beds were really comfortable, and breakfast the next morning consisted of baguettes, croissants, cheese, cold cuts, grapes and juice. And delicious coffee, of course. The prices were very reasonable.
The town of Wissembourg is very picturesque, with lots of historical buildings, fantastic photo ops, and lots of cafes and bars. It is just big enough for a leisurely one hour stroll, and there are some nice little shops. The church is well worth a visit - it is the largest one in Alsace after the cathedral in Strassburg. The designer of the Statue of Liberty came from here.
We had a wonderful time and it makes for a great weekend break. The surrounding area offers lots of great walking and hiking and touring opportunities.

Room Tip: All rooms are quiet. there is an additional house next to the hotel where the decor is marginally m...

Another of the post-war French/German small hotels that are comfortable, clean, with great kitchens. We were greeted warmly and served well and amply for the price. Loved the dinner, wine list, and they opened up a salon for us on our floor so we could stay up late and play cards. Recommendations for wine tastings proved to be precise and we were happy to have a chance to roam around the village later on and again in the morning. It's on the north end of the Route du Vin of Alsace - perfect place to complete a trip along the Route Du Vin.
