“Very good holiday experience in Mondi Bellevue Bad Gastein”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 21, 2013

We spent a week staying in an apartment at the Mondi Bellevue in Bad Gastein. The apartment is very well laid out- not huge but very well designed with fitted furniture. Good access to the ski slopes. There is a climb up hill to get to the lift station, but with a few breathing stops- its fine, and the hotel comfort makes up for the struggle. Pool and sauna adequate. No night time noise- well insulated. Good buffet food. Reception service was very good. The building is quite sprawling, and takes a bit of time to get used to the various lifts- this should only lose half a point- to give a 4.5 rating!!

This is a lovely property with beautiful apartments, we stayed there on an RCI exchange and were glad to have been upgraded from Studio to One Bedroom. Bad Gastien is a quaint town, the water fall literally flows through the center of the town and in summer it is like an Indian Hill Station with people walking along the promenade and browsing the shops, some good bargains are available if I may add. It was delightful to have lovely music programmes at the resort, within it or in the open air at their restraunt below from where the sounds would reverberate up to our apartment balcony, where we sat sipping wine. The first evening we were there went for the dinner buffet but were disappointed with the quality of the food, did give the breakfast a try but it too was sub-standard so did not give the resort our custom again, also it was in poor taste that in the apartment large signs had been kept about how good the tap water was to drink and in the restraunt they charged I think 4 euro for a jug of it even though we were paying for the buffet and that too without informing us it just came on to the bill. We found the reception staff a tad unfriendly but would simply ignore them and go back in a heartbeat, the girl at the reception when we checked out was so petty that because I complained of the water charge she did reverse it but did not give me the perppermints which were being gifted to all retreating RCI members, so I will keep my opinion on Austrian reserve till I see a thaw. There are lots of excursions around the place one could easily stay for 2 weeks.

Room Tip: Had a room facing the Hotel de Europa and enjoyed it.

We had a week here through RCI. Would have been happy to stay longer. Our studio was small but great. It had enough space to maneuver and was sufficiently equipped to cook meals in the small kitchenette. There was a great grocery/department store within walking distance (if you like to walk :-). Our studio had a balcony and our view was super; we faced the town below us and majestic mountains in the distance. We ate most meals on our little deck! The spa facilities, including indoor heated pool, steam and sauna, were very nice. (Be aware that it is common in Austria and Germany to shed swimsuits when using the steam and sauna, which are generally coed.) The folks at the front dest were helpful, especially Mario. The resort is well located to explore the region. In one full day, we took the "car train" south then continued driving to Slovenia and back. We mostly stayed right in the Gastein Valley because it is so beautiful we really didn't want to stray far. We took the gondola up to Stubnerkogel for more views of the spectacular Austrian Alps. Bad Gastein itself is a spa town from the Belle Epoque era. It has elegant architecture. Many structures are built into the hillside, others are nestled in the valley. It surprised us that so many grand buildings were empty. Some developer should come in and restore this really beautful town in a really beautiful area. The Bellevue is quite comtemporary in style, I'd say comparable to a 4-5 star hotel. The lobby area has great views, and a great bar. We would recommend this resort to anyone looking for a relaxing stay among beautiful scenery. We took lengthy walks. There is a self-guided recorded tour of Bad Gastein available from the local chamber of commerce. We had great weather the first week of June. There is little night life, at least this time of year (which is fine for us, but maybe not for everyone).

Room Tip: For great views get a room in the main building facing the town and mountains.

We stayed there one nigth and two days for a meetting. Although the hotel has closed for vacation officially, the staff was very friendly and managed the situation perfect. If you did not know it, you would not recognized, that we have been there during the closure periode.
Same with "Jägerstüberl" -excellent food and good service. My very large room was overlooking the valley -beautiful.

We stayed at this hotel a year ago so sorry to write the review very late!
It was actually clear days back than (a little bit but without any snow or rain).
We did a "Star trip" style with a car.
Our reservation which was really cheap was a COMBO from their website.
Having a big room (Living room + Kitchen + bedroom) with entrance to a Thermal spa (couple of minutes walking).
The room was clean and smell nice! the kitchen was fully equipped with everything we need!
We had a blacony to view the whole valley and it was amazing.
Moreover, Our deal included breakfast + Evening so for 4 nights we ate at the hotel & it was never boring!!!
The food was coloful and tasty! every night we got a special desert :)
The morning was also satisified to start a day with a full belly.

Disadvanteges:
1. Wifi cost extra money for each day
2. Couple of the services of the hotel was closed during off-season (bowling room + play room)
3. !!! the most important thing!! - Parking lot is FAR AWAY!!!!
I needed to park up in the hill and walk all the way down every night + morning.
It was pretty cold at the morning and it was rough to go all the way up the my car.
Beyond that - Perfect hotel.

They also a pub very close by...!

Room Tip: Ask for room with a view to the valley! Great way to open your morning like that!

This was our second visit to the hotel in three years and it fully met our expectaions. The hotel is relatively large and is primarily focused on meeting the needs of families with young children (eg there are daily planned activities, an indoor pool, a play area and bicycles for hire). Although we did not fit into this category-our party comprised three adults with an interest in hill walking and/or the Felsentherm baths yet again the hotel proved to be an ideal location for us. It has a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, with helpful staff who are available when required (eg when we wanted to hire bikes for the day, or to advise on the operating times of the chair lifts and cable cars), but who otherwise leave the guests to come and go as they please. The hotel is centrally located in the town between cable car (up the hill) and the spectacular town waterfall (down the hill). Immediately below the hotel is an excellent restaurant/pizzeria (Jaegerhausl) that serves a wide range of high quality Austrian and Italian food. Our apartment was spacious and had a balcony that overlooked the lower town including the bandstand where good quality jazz and classical music was performed almost every evening. As other reviewers have mentioned, the hotel is partly built on a hillside, so there are steep slopes to be negotiated above and below, but that is all part of the drama, the beauty and the wonder of the town of Bad Gastein-you feel you are among the hills and mountains, particulary when there is a nightime storm. The apartment was regularly serviced with clean towels and we were very satisfied with all the services on offer which we used. So many thanks to the Mondi staff for our wonderful holiday. We fully expect to return again at a future date.

The hotel is large and well spaced out although one has to walk steep slopes to approach the hotel. May be difficult for the aged. We had a room that was reasonably spacious. The beds had to be put up during the day which was inconvenient, but we kept them down all the while and still had a movement area. Bathroom is small and bath amenities are less than the usual hotel issues. The ladies at the reception are not friendly. Curt answers to your questions. One would think they were trained in the armed forces. Breakfast is good and keeps you going for the day, although the breakfast menu was the same during the period we stayed. The room we were in was well equiped for self catering. We did make use of this facility. There is an electric kettle but no tea, coffee or sugar is provided, you got to get your own. The view from the room was a restricted valley view, but nice. Once I got stuck in the lift for 20 minutes and there was no response from the reception inspite of my wife informing them of the situtation as she was waiting for me at the reception. A maintenance man from the lift company came to my rescue after ringing the alarm bell repeatedly . The girls at the reception denied knowing the situtation. This was annoying. There is no air conditioning or a fan. It gets warm when the temperature goes to 24 deg c. and can be unpleasant. The supermarket is 1 km away. While the station is a 15 minute walk. A few restaurants near by. The staff could be a little pleasant.

Room Tip: Valley view on a higher floor
