We are puzzled by some negative comments about this hotel as we cannot fault it. The room we were given is lovely and big with an enormous balcony outside (writing in present tense on our last evening here). On arrival there was a bottle of sparkling wine and local chocolates which were delicious. The staff are very helpful and friendly. They all speak several languages so we were able to ask advice about the resort and how to go about skiing in this and neighbouring resorts. The food is great but as there were some negative comments about it I will say more about it. For breakfast there is a choice of porridge, numerous cereals, freshly made pastries, smoked salmon, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausages, cheeses, hams, all kinds of breads, yoghurts and fruit of different varieties so again it is hard to understand some negative comments we read before we came and which made us worry whether we made the right choice. For dinner there was always a delicious soup with variety of bread choices, meat dish (eg roast rolled veal in caper sauce and polenta), fish dish (eg poached John Dory filet in lemon sauce) and a vegetarian dish (eg tortellini with pumpkin seed pesto). There were always at least four vegetables plus a potato dish. Deserts all looked fresh and there were several on offer. There was also either a fruit salad or fruit basket on offer. In fact our biggest problem was to chose which dish to have and we definitely put on weight here. The pool is on the small side but we discovered that the only time it was busy was between skiing and dinner so we started using it late and had it for ourselves. It was clean and filled with warm thermal water. The manager of the hotel Sergey Sokolov stops by tables in the morning and asks if everything is OK. He also serves free mulled wine and non alcoholic version for kids between 4-5 (just right after coming in from skiing). The hotel is old and has a long tradition but it is warm, clean and comfortable.
I have thought of something which can be improved. Austria is one of those countries where foreign programs are dubbed rather than subtitled. As a result the only English speaking channel on the TV was BBC World which was repeatedly covering a small number of news items. We tended not to go out in the evenings and would have appreciated a choice of programmes to watch. All in all this was a very enjoyable and memorable holiday for us and Elisabethpark hotel was instrumental in that being so.
