Stayed here in March 2013 for a week on a ski holiday package (through Crystal Ski) and loved the place. Location was great, right in the centre, with beautiful views of the town and surrounding mountains (or of the park if you're at the back of the building, not quite as spectacular, but still nice). Unfortunately a large portion of the town centre is boarded up as apparently some investor bought up a load of buildings to 'renovate' and has done nothing with them. I still felt the town kept its charm and beauty though - especially with the waterfall running right through it. Hopefully something will be done with the buildings soon though, as I think it is affecting trade for some of the local business, and it would be such a shame to see such a beautiful town centre go to ruin.

The main ski lifts are only about 5-10min walk away from the Hotel, but it is up a steep hill, which you probably wouldn't want to walk if you were carrying ski equipment, so the hotel run a very regular shuttle service to and from the lifts. There is also a very good skibus service (free of charge if you have a lift pass) in the town that you can get from beside the main ski lifts, (or from Motzartplatz - which is a little closer to the hotel in the other direction - and avoids the steep hill) . This skibus service connects you to the other ski areas - Sportgastein, Badhofgastein and Dorfgastein - running from early morning to about 5pm, so basically getting around the area couldn't be easier - and the ski opportunities are plentiful, with slopes up to 2700m.

Just as a side note on the area - The ski bus was particularly useful for me, as due to injury I wasn't actually skiing, so I could get around this way to the many hiking routes and other activities while my other half was on the slopes. There really was Tonnes to do besides skiing, so the location was perfect from that point of view. Also very useful, particularly for non skiers, is the Gastein card - which you get from the hotel free of charge (I think it is available to anyone staying in a hotel in the Gastein area, you just ask for it at reception) - This offers lots of discounts on activities and transport and provides considerable savings. If you're not skiing you can get a pedestrian pass for the ski lifts, which allows 6 trips within a 21 day period and costs only €80 - unfortunately I didn't notice this option until half way through my week, so the few times I used the lifts I just paid the discounted pedestrian fare of 18.50 but will definitely avail of it on my next trip.

Anyway, back to the hotel itself....
On arrival to our room we were welcomed with a complimentary bottle of sparkling wine and a couple of chocolates, which I thought was a lovely touch. The room was spacious and very comfortable. The breakfast buffet was fantastic, with lots of options to choose from. I was even able to make myself a packed lunch for my hikes each day as the buffet included lots of sandwich ingredients (I'm sure you're not supposed to do this but what harm!? :) Also, due to the fact that the town is built on some sort of spring, there is fresh running spring water in all the taps, so I could just fill up my water bottle in the bathroom sink and have lovely fresh drinking water!

The pool and sauna were really nice (although we were there at a quiet time so they might get a bit crowded during busy periods - as it was we had them almost to ourselves a lot of the time, which was great!) We didn't go for the half board option, but we did eat in the à la carte restaurant a couple of nights and the food was lovely.

Staff in all parts of the hotel were friendly and helpful and really made for a very comfortable stay. There is a lovely bar, which unfortunately was quite often empty due to the week we were staying being quiet, but we did pop in a couple of times to have a quick night cap and a chat to the friendly barman.

One slight negative (although I'm nit-picking now) was in the Spa. I went for a massage one of the days, which was lovely, and very enjoyable, but the room was quite brightly lit, and there was no music or anything playing (I couldn't help focusing on a rather irritating ticking clock the entire time!), so it just wasn't quite as relaxing as it could have been.

Overall though, I really enjoyed my stay here and would highly recommend the hotel. The whole week really felt like such a treat, I loved every minute of it!

+ friendly staff
Nice swimming pool
Functional
Minibus service to slopes ( we used ski depot at gondola station to avoid using minibus)

- in area that is mostly boarded up pending renovation.
Opposite 1970's ugly congress building
Located 10 mins walk to gondola which is uphill
Spa area okay but not in anyway luxurious
Breakfast was varied but canned fruit not ideal. Limited hot food that did not taste great and restaurant very bland.
Bar area poor and always empty.

In summary, reflective of photos and more s 3 than a 4 star.

First off let me say we enjoyed our stay at the Elisabethpark. It has many good features but i think it could be even better. It is a mature hotel with character and lovely views over the village. It is close to the attractive waterfall and although not far from the station and ski lift the walk is steep to get there. The hotel caters for this by running shuttles at peak skiing hours. As there are two there is not a long wait. The half board option is a buffet every night. I think this is a bit of a cop out because it is so much easier for the hotel than an at table service. To be fair the buffet was good but I think a four star hotel should strive for more. However, you can take credit into the a la carte restaurant which we did and enjoyed the difference. The four stars reflect the facilities on offer but let me list my pluses and minuses apart from the foregoing.

What is good about the hotel:
The staff - very helpful and friendly
The welcome sparkling wine
The gluwein apres ski
The drivers on the shuttle
The comfortable room - great sleep
Very clean

What needs improvement:
Above all get a new internet provider to strip out the current set up and introduce something that works well. At reception I heard many others with the same complaints as me (no connection in the room). A tip for travellers - connect in the lobby and you will probably hold the connection when you go back to your room.
Tea making facilities in the room would be nice.
These day people have phones and cameras to charge and so more sockets in the room would be good.
The lift has an interesting program which lets it skip floors on the way past when people there have pressed to go in that direction.
Soap in squeeze dispensers might be efficient but is more reminiscent of a two star hotel. I expect proper soap and shampoo in a four star hotel.

Room Tip: Choose the village side for a great view.

Nice interior with historical exponats and pictures. View on the mountains and old town from the huge windows. Children enjoyed swimming pool, fitness room and punch party after skiing. Pleasant atmosphere in restaurant with morning newspaper. Good location from the skiing: you can go by yourself or get with hotel bus to the skiing station. Hotel team is friendly and speak Russian.

A large hotel, which means that is has most facilities you can expect but totally lacks charm and personality. The design feels more east european than Austrian. If this doesn't bother you it is a good choice. Good location down in the old part of Bad Gastein close to the waterfall. A bit away from the station, but the hotel provides a well working minibus shuttle. A nice and well kept sauna and pool area. Uninspired lobby and bar downstairs which smells heavy of smoke all the time. Large breakfast buffet with most that you could expect. But unfortunately we had booked half board which meant dinner every night at the hotel... A mediocre buffet with tasteless and uninspired food. Might be considered ok by Russian or British (sorry!) cooking standards, but not by any other standard in a four star hotel.

Unfortunately we cannot rate the hotel more that average due to the very bad food when you buy acommodation including dinner. Not at all 4 star.
The dinner was buffet and almost the same every evening, meat in sauce and one day Chicken Mc nuggets. The desserts = dry cockies and Dr.Ötker pudding. Come on this is Austria with some of the worlds best baking traditons.
The staff was friendly, but many of them only spoke Bulgarian. The room, the beds and SPA were VERY clean and nice with a top rating.

The pictures show a great traditional place with a lot of history. All true but the place is also old and it is easy to feel it.
A lot to walk when we had the room over the Spa area.
Nice spa area, nice massage. Nice breakfast (we did not have the half board and it wasn´t a problem).
You need their shuttle to get to the slopes which is a drawback and it is absolutly nothing to see around, but a great restaurent or two beside; specially Lutter und Wegner as well as the Jergerhaus nearby.
