Lovely stay post xmas last year in Bad Gastein.

The hotel was good , functional with good facilities. Good location outside Bad Gastein, right next to the bus stop.
The room was spacious and comfortable .
Food was good too, although staff were hit and miss. Some excellent, some very nonchalent .
Had a real issue with high chairs and lack of them. When we arrived they only had 3 for the whole hotel and tens of children needing them. We had a real struggle the first few days and made a few complaints to the waiting staff and management but they were extremely unresponsibe. However, on the 3rd day I raised it to the duty manager and he resolved it immediately and there was a high chair waiting for us at dinner. Shame we had to raise it so high up to get a response, they would have seen from their booking and the amount of cots they had deployed how many high chairs were required....shouldn't have taken the battle and the stress of someone on holiday to push for a resolution .....not impressed...:(

former 5 star hotel

don't like:
- unproffesional, rude even aggressive bar waiter
- poor wine list
- children in sauna, yelling
- very slow response from hotel via email
- no king size bed in hotel
- 3 floors for hotel guests and 2 floors for private room owners
- we can't open safety box in room and girl from Reception says that keys for that have just General manager but he's not at hotel ???

like:
- good gym and wellnes / indoor pool area
- parking space in front of hotel
- clean room
- good kitchen Chef, diversity on dinners food
- profesional Restaurant manager

Room tip: don't book a room under 3rd floor view garden

I spent five days at Cesta Grand Aktivhotel & Spa in early February of 2018, and I have nothing but words of praise for the hotel.

First of all, it has a quality rare among large hotels of combining size with coziness. I felt relaxed and at home both in my room and in common spaces including the bar and restaurant, and could always get advice and attention from the staff despite the hotel being full. This, to me, is very important to have a good rest!

My room (standard one) was spacious and full of light thanks to the large windows. From my point of view, it was designed with a lot of taste and I particularly liked use of wooden (or wooden-like) furniture, which gave it a nice rustic touch, and the warm colours of the carpet and curtains. Everything was spotlessly clean and neat, the bathroom was also relatively large which I always appreciate despite being often a single traveler.

The next thing that should be mentioned is the excellent food! I was booked with half-board, and while I probably expected a slightly larger choice for breakfast after reading the Tripadvisor reviews (definitely more sorts of pastry:)), I liked everything I tasted. In any case, the dinners were delicious, with a very well planned combination of starters & main courses and just a great assortment of desserts! It’s a good idea to serve desserts in smaller portions, so that one can try different kinds on the same day. Candlesticks on the tables and the “Trachten” that the waiters were wearing added to the atmosphere. The service was also very good.

Cesta Grand’s location is a bit away from the center of Bad Gastein, but it is well-connected: there is a bus route connecting Bad Gastein with the neighbor town of Bad Hofgastein, and the bus stop is right in front of the hotel entrance. One can also get to the town centre on foot, but the walk climbs uphill most of the way, sometimes quite steeply. I did not mind it in the least though, as I came there for an active holiday and enjoy walking in general. The walk in the opposite direction to Bad Hofgastein is very scenic too and runs along a small local river - do give it a try, if you stay at Cesta Grand.

The hotel further has a very nice swimming pool filled with the water from the hot springs (if I understood correctly). It’s mostly empty in the first half of the day, and one can have it all to oneself. Again, everything is clean and nice to look at. There is also a sauna, but I did not go there, as I can’t understand the local requirement of attending saunas naked which seems to be standard in Austria.

To conclude, Cesta Grand provides everything one needs for a relaxed happy vacation, I can definitely recommend it! And yes, a warm thanks to Elisabetta at the reception desk who was extremely helpful and knowledgeable – she knew an answer to any question!

Large, clean rooms, really nice spa facilities and treatments. Generous breakfast buffet and nice and homely lounge area where you can hang out and take a drink. Slopes easily accessible by skibus. In short - a really good place to stay!
