Chalet-Hotel Tannenburg

We spent a week in January (2 adults, 2 YAs) at the Tannenberg, our 3rd stay at a Ski Miquel chalet. A very lively crowd (all ages) and welcoming, enthusiastic staff who mixed well with the guests. Excellent food, wine and afternoon teas; very comfortable rooms/beds and a good layout to the shared living areas made for a very sociable stay but also provided space for quiet reading etc. The skiing was good, mostly red runs so perhaps a bit limited for beginners, and all the areas we visited were quiet; the various areas require some short distance travel by taxi or bus. 5 to 10 minute walk from the chalet to the ski-hire shop and bottom of the main gondola; good ski/boot storage there as well so no trekking up the hill in ski boots (free if you hire equipment, worth the 20 euros if you don't). Excellent ski-guiding each day with coffee and lunch stops (table pre-booked).

Have just returned from a great Christmas sking holiday at the Tannenburg.
This was our 2nd visit having spent a wonderful Christmas 2012 at the chalet. The Tanneburg is very clean & comfortable with comfy beds & lots of hot water ,the staff once again were efficient ,friendly & the food excellent & plentiful. The resort manager & ski guide Carol has been there a number of years & knows the area very well.
Having stayed at most of the ski Miquel chalets I would rate this as their best run chalet & that is down to Carol.
We used the ski guide every available day ,its a great way of skiing the best slopes on the mountain & lunching in the best mountain lodges.
Thankyou for making our Christmas holiday so enjoyable.

Room Tip: We were on the top floor & had great views down the valley.

Stayed at the Tannenburg for seven nights and thanks to the bar staff and the locals at the bar I was drunk almost every night. Phil the barman was awesome. he did everything he could to make the stay better and it worked! The girls (Emma & Lilly) were very sweet and good fun. They were also goin the extra mile.
It was a very nice building and the beds and rooms were great. My only complaint would be that the manager is very "full on". If there is any problems she will be the first to rush out and try to justify the problem, but doesnt seem to do much about it.
It would have been a perfect score if not for carrol. Having said that I would recommend both Bad Gastein and the Tannenburg to everyone!

Room Tip: First Floor rooms have a balcony which is good for smokers and room 18 has a walkway that leads into...

We stayed at the Tannenburg over the Christmas week and had a great time. The Chalet is extremely comfortable and all of the staff are a credit to Carol and Ski Miquel. Food was excellent and plentiful and the meal on Christmas night was of exceptional quality with a real effort made by the whole team.
We met some really nice people and the ski guiding as really useful, especially the pre booked mountain restaurants which were busy due to it being holiday season.
Bad Gastein is a nice town too with plenty of restaurants and bars on offer. Lovely thermal baths too after a hard day skiing.
We opted to spend the last day in Salzburg instead of buying another lift ticket. Got the train direct from Bad Gastein and met up with the coach at Salzburg airport with our bags. Reallly nice day out.
Most of our fellow travellers on the Chalet were returning Ski Miquel customers full of praise for the other Ski Miquel holidays also. We shall be returning for definite!

We have recently returned from a fabulous weeks skiing staying at the Tannenburg Chalet. Carol, the hotel manager, runs the chalet perfectly and all the staff are lovely, helpful, friendly people. The rooms are spacious and clean and the food is top class with a very accommodating chef. There is a separate lounge if you like the quieter evenings or there is a bar area for more fun and games. The guiding by Carol and Sam was excellent and made the days fun and exhilarating. There is a 5 minute walk up a steep hill to the gondola but you soon get used to this and there is a boot room there so you don't have to carry boots and skis every morning. All in all a brilliant holiday, thanks Carol and the team.

Stayed at the Tannenburg this month and had a great week. We were lucky with our room allocation (overlooking the town). The decor wouldn't win any interior design awards, but as a skier that's pretty low down my list of priorities. For the things that mattered (like plentiful hot water!) Ski Miquel scores highly: The food was excellent - good restaurant quality - and good portions; the lounge with real fire had enough seating for all who wanted to use it; the bar (with the unique nail game!) has reasonably priced drinks and, overseeing everything, great staff, all extremely friendly and professional.

Just one note of caution: if you're a snowboarder or fast skiier you may not be well catered for in the guiding groups. The week I went 2 very slow skiiers, who really should have been in lessons, got the services of one of the guides, leaving the rest of the skiiers - a huge group of varying abilities - with the one remaining guide. Apart from that one niggle, Ski Miquel provided a fantastic holiday.

Room Tip: Room 6, first floor, has balcony overlooking town.

What made this such a great ski holiday? Was it the great food prepared by Jeff the Chef and the friendly service provided by the whole team or was it the comfy rooms? Was it Carol and Jack leading us round the mountains and taking us to great Mountain restaurants.
Of course, what made it such a success was all of these things, and the wonderful mix of guests from a variety of backgrounds that all gelled together to make this holiday, a definite one to remember.
Well done, Ski Miquel, you've got the blueprint for success just right.

The Chalet-Hotel Tannenburg combines traditional Austrial and informal affordable English hospitality.
