“Excellent holiday”
Reviewed March 29, 2012

Since there is no lift we asked for a room on the ground floor which was readily provided for us in the annexe. It was lovely very warm ( good for February) with light brown furniture. Room was clean with a view out to the garden which was covered with snow. You could see the mountains ion the background and lovely views from the corridor. Excellent breakfast with even the opportunity to cook your own bacon and eggs. Plenty of cereals with tasteful yogurt, various breads and delicious jam

Room Tip: No lift so, but ground floor rooms are very large and easily accessible.

We stayed at the Goldene Rose in the suite and had a fabulous time. The room was well appointed with a large comfortable bed Austrian style. We ate in the restaurant on both nights and the food was brilliant- traditional Austrian style. We will definitely be back.

Room Tip: Request a room with mountain views

We looked forward to a traditional, Bavarian hotel and hospitality, but we were disappointed. On arrival we were allocated a room at the top of 4 flights of stairs (there is no lift) which was bitterly cold. We were told there was no other room available, and we were provided with a small fan heater. The room was not very bright and there was a lack of drawer space. The soap dispenser in the shower needed a good clean, and I was thankful that I had take a bar of soap. All the rooms have a shower, but there are no baths. There were no facilities for making a drink in the room.
My husband wanted to set up an account to pay with his credit card at the end of our stay, (as we do with all our vacations) but this was not possible, instead he had to pay for each individual purchase with his card!!!
The food was nothing special. There was a choice, but the portions were small, and reminded me of large catering bags of rice, turkey pieces, etc., being purchased and cooked in bulk. The salad bar offered the same choice every night. Always a choice of 2 desserts, and a selection of cheese, but when the popular choice was gone, it wasn't replaced. Breakfast was a similar experience and requests had to be made to waitress to refill communal tea/coffee pots, and other items in the buffet. Would have liked to see a fresh fruit option at breakfast, but the fruit provided was from a tin!
The only room allocated for no-smoking was a small room, which invariably had a private dining party in the evening. The small main bar was filled with thick smoke, which escaped into the buffet area.
TIPS - Take soap/shampoo/coathangers. Ask for a bus pass at reception - they give you free access on the local bus to the ski lift.
On a positive note, the location is excellent, and the scenery is just what you would expect in Bavaria.

We have just come back from a Christmas holiday at the Goldene Rose and had a wonderful time. We had a lovely room at the top of the hotel and enjoyed every day there. The staff are very friendly, gave very good service and speak excellent English. The food was good and on Christmas Day it was very good. The owner is a gentleman of the old school so don't believe any negative remarks about him on this site. Beer is very good value but wine is quite expensive. We just had a great, great time there!

Stayed here as part of tour group, typical Austrian pension. Drinks were a bit expensive. 15.20 euros for a bottle of wine, but at least it was a litre, and 3 euros for small glass of wine. Supermarkets within 10 minutes walk of hotel either direction on main road, wine from as little as 2 euros.

Well appointed for bus, and not too far to walk to the train station about 15-20 minutes at the most, but that was in the snow. Just off main road, and set back off main road into village, which had a coffee shop. Beside a 2 banks, near to shops about 10 minutes, and church.

Friendly hotel, caters for vegetarians. Food very nice, but murder on the waist line. Staff wear traditional costumes for the area, makes pleasant change, to the standard white shirt/blouse and black skirt/trousers that most hotels have, that is if they even bother. Also looks professional, smart and clean.

Warm, basic, clean and nice, family run hotel.

Did not use the health facilties, have a feeling these were closed for the winter.

Would love to go back in the summer, as looks to be a good base for walking in the surounding area, and getting around by local transport. About 15 minutes to the German border.

The hotel is in the small village of Lechashau which is a short (15 min) walk across the river to the larger town of Reutte.

The village is very small and quiet.

The Goldene rose is bigger than it looks from the outside as it has various extensions built onto the rear, even though our party were the only guests staying there the food was still authentic and not geared to the English, not a burger or chicken and chips anywhere to be seen, thank goodness.

stayed here in december as part of shearings christmas markets tour.
the hotel rooms were lovely. very pretty decor, comfy beds, great shower, flat screen tv. there were no tea/coffee facilities and we were told by our tour guide to hide kettles if we brought our own as they were not alowed in the rooms.
the food wasn't that good. there was only 1 choice the first night and the rest of the time it was pork or pork. (our nicest meal was mcdonalds!!)
the bar has a table reserved for locals only. even if there were no locals in the bar and all the other tables(3 of them) are taken you cannot sit there and you will be made to move.
would'nt stay here again.
