Worth the visit. Recommend the Canape. I'm petrified of heights but the team was amazing and made me feel very safe...

We also did the top of the volcano (1hr walk) and that was so interesting and beautiful.

“Cool, Interesting & Educational”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 16, 2014

There is lots to do in this park:
ZIP-LINE over lush vegetation, including coffee trees at the bottom of the mountain @ "Mombacho Finca Miravale". Great activity to get kids invigorated for upper mountain activities. Guides are great, very safe, speak english and make sure you leave with a big smile on your face! Watch out for mango missiles thrown by the Howler Monkeys from trees near the info office! Use toilet facilities here as they are cleaner than those at top of mountain. $30 US p.p. (credit card facility available) - you can also pay for an english speaking guide here for hiking at the top ($30 US p.p.)
COFFEE PLANTATION tours & tasting (half-way up the mountain). We did not do this as we ran out of time. Looked interesting.
HIKING. Best views inside the crater and from the lookout over Granada & surrounds can be seen in March/April; obscured by cloud at other times. Two trails #1 Sendero del Crater (2km) & #2 Sendero La Puma (4km). Puma trail is roped off and can only be done with a guide. We organized an english speaking guide at the zip-lining for $30 US p.p. which included transport to the top. Alternatively, you can drive (4WD only) or use the open-air bus shuttle or walk (2hrs strenuous with some 45 degree incline sections). Our hiking guide was spectacular. His knowledge of local flora & fauna and volcano mechanics/geology was outstanding. He stopped us periodically to smell, taste, feel or look at interesting stuff - great for maintaining 100% attention of the kids. The visitor centre is basic but houses an interactive display of the volcano, specimens and guides waiting to be hired. Coffee/tea, food, toilets available inside too.
Main points of interest include: Crater, canyon, active vents, cloud forest, view over Granada city, lake, and, Isletas de Granada.
Plan to spend the good part of an entire day here if you do ALL activities :)
Edwin Ruiz Fuentes (tour guide) of Macau Tours arranged everything for us (including transport to and from the park and other destinations - I highly, highly recommend!

“Beautiful hiking”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 30, 2014

The transportation up in the truck can be bumpy and you usually have to wait . You will also need to get a guide (they won't let you go through alone). As soon as our hike started , so did the rain! Thank goodness someone in our group had a water proof bag for our cameras. The hike itself can be strenuous at a few points but worth every drop of sweat! Just don't expect to see smoldering craters- as the walk is mostly forest and clouds.

“Beautiful place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 22, 2014

The natural reserve is 1250 m above the sea level. I have been there several times since I was a child because my father used to work in their telecom towers.

In the past 20 years, it has evolved to become, what I would call, the nicest Volcano Reserve of the country. You can get to the top either by riding their big truck, which leaves between one and three times a day, or by driving your own 4x4 (if you have experience).

They have three types of hikes, an easy, a medium and a hard one. The last two must be accompanied by a guide.

The weather is usually very nice, cloudy, there is breeze that just relaxes you. You can breathe fresh and unpolluted air for as long as you are wondering around the reserve. The flora and fauna of the reserve are also amazing. You can see a lot of butterflies and exotic flowers such as orchids.

As a local and a tourist who loves travelling around the world, I can tell you that this is one of the places you must visit if you come to this country.
