Brilliant location overlooking the horses and carts of the main square. NIce room for 4 at a reasonable price. Swimming pool was small but very pleasant. Very good breakfasts. Really helpful staff: Bell boy was a fantastic fixer and the receptionist was super-efficient in finding me a good dentist (and taxi to take me there) when I broke a tooth in half - it was all fixed within 2 hours.

- Nice pool
- Good complimentary breakfast
- Helpful staff
- Centrally located on the major square
- Spotty Internet unfortunately
- Clean rooms with effective air conditioners

Only complaint is that it can be loud at night, so bring ear plugs.

A great place to stay. Super nice staff. A little loud outside, but hey, it was the week between Christmas and new years.

The previous review (lehigh98) is spot on. I'll just add this...

By far the best hotel service we received in Nicaragua. Staff were eager to help us find our destinations (shops, restaurants, museums, etc.), and especially eager to practice their (nearly fluent) English. Rooms provided a cozy, authentic colonial feel.

I've deducted a couple points for the following: the location is IDEAL for exploring Granada by foot, carriage or cab... assuming that you do not mind the street noise. For a couple from the country like ourselves, ear plugs and white noise were a necessity (which, of course, we brought along).

We reserve 5 stars for only the very best hotels.

We stayed at the Hotel Granada as part of an independent nine day trip within Nicaragua.

Although we have travelled all over the world and throughout Central and South America, we were a bit hesitant about what to expect in Nicaragua; however, our expectations were vastly exceeded at all levels throughout our trip.

Specifically in regard to the Hotel Granada, the Hotel is a gorgeously restored building. In fact, it is so beautifully appointed and designed that we coveted it for ourselves- if we were to own a private residence in this region we would want it to be designed similar to the Hotel Granada.

The hotel location in Granada is ideal and despite many travel books suggesting that Granada is a one day destination, we felt compelled to stay three nights.

THe employees are wonderfully helpful and very pleasant. It is obvious that the hotel is well managed.

We realize that other Hotels are rated slightly higher in TripAdvisor; however, I would be surprised if any other Hotels were superior. We would stay in Hotel Plaza Colon if we visit Granada again (which we very well may do)
