GM is really new and it's only a short walk to the main square. Greg, the owner knows everyone and he was able to give my group some fabulous hook ups! He got us discount prices on activities and his knowledge of the region is great. The place still has some work to do, but in the next month or so it will be stunning- a really pretty, quiet place to stay. The pool area looks really cool and I really liked the choice of indoor showers or outdoor showers for those balmy nights.
I would 100% stay here again!!!

When we first came to Granada we had the pleasure of being dropped off at the doorstep of GM Granada. GM is located right across the street from the Tica Bus Terminal, so that's a big plus, also because after check-out you can leave your bags very safely and whenever your bus leaves you just pick them up and carry them 5m across the street and that's it!

We've been in GM twice. The first time for about a week, the second time like 5 days, both times we kept booking an extra night by the day. The two owners, Manuel & Greg, are very friendly and above all very helpful. When we first left Granada we went to San Juan Del Sur, a place we also highly recommend to everyone! The only downside is that we got robbed there at a music festival. But these things happen. No violence was involved. Just don't leave your bag hanging from your shoulder in a busy environment. Anyway, we hitchhiked back to Granada and the first thing that came to mind was coming back here. (We couldn't make any online bookings anymore since our credit card was stolen.) Online it stated that GM was fully booked but we took our chances and Manuel took us in, no problem! We were even lucky enough to get a regular room. Felt like coming home :)

Manuel is the one that you will definitely meet since he's always at GM. He knows a lot about Granada and it's surroundings and will always try to help you get on your way to book a tour or to your next destination best as he can. He engages in conversations but at the same time also grants you privacy. One of the best things is (which you too will find a nice change of routine if you're traveling central-america) is that he speaks perfect english apart from spanish. Therefore he can help you make phone calls to book something for example.

Some might say the center of Granada is a bit far from GM, but we really enjoyed our daily walk. (Our daily exercise haha). Also taxi's are cheap (never took one here though). Just consider that the bus terminal is very close and you walk to the center without your luggage. It's about half a kilometer. Another half if you want to go all the way to the lake. Apparently you should meet locals that will show you the good parts of the beaches and sometimes they have bonfires and parties going on. If you go there during the day and don't know where to go you will end up dissapointed. The "regular" tourist part of the lake is very dirty, stinky, swarms of flies and we even saw some needles in the sand. The only downside to Granada. The city center is very nice and beautiful. We walked almost every day to enjoy the pool at the end of the restaurant street. It's the biggest one in all of Nicaragua and you'll find yourself to be the only one using it mostly, especially on weekdays haha. It costs 7 dollars to use the pool. We went there everyday because GM is still building their own pool (halfway there!) but it seems like it's going to be a very nice one. Go to the other one once to experience it, but we will think the one GM is building will very much suffice once it's done ;) Also GM is one of the cheaper hostels that have nice private rooms. Good for couples! Only thing is that the rooms don't have ac at the moment and it can get a little hot, but hey, you know what part of the world you're traveling in right? Also we didn't have curtains but we're sure they will come. Maybe the prices will go up a little when construction is done, we don't know about that. Seems fair though since the lake is unswimmable and going somewhere else will cost you some dollars entry fee too.

The kitchen is fully equipped, the maid is very friendly and does your laundry for only 30 cordobas, the rooms are clean and safe to leave your stuff in.

Lastly, the motto written above the entrance is "May all who enter as Guests leave as Friends". We sure did!

Note that we've been on the road for 5 months, going through Asia, Australia & Central America, and this is the first time we ever took the time to write a review.

Cheers!

Nelson & Stephanie
