“Best budget hotel in Granada”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 16, 2012

This is a very pleasant quiet hotel in the old part of Granada, four and a half blocks west of the Parque Central. There are only eight rooms, four with kitchens ($25 a night) and four without ($11 a night) so it may be a good idea to make a reservation. There are discount rates if you stay for a week or longer. It is owned by a nice Dutch-Nicaraguan couple who live on the premises. I fully agree with the other positive reviews.

Room Tip: The rooms with a kitchen are twice as large as the other rooms, and the ones on the second floor get...

I planned to stay in Granada for only three days, but got stuck there for 10. One of the reasons was this hostel. Located near the parque central. The area is safe - even after sunset.

Everything was basically new. Rooms have ceiling fan, private bathroom, everything was very clean - there're also rooms with kitchen. They have a wonderful garden with mango threes, hammacs, a table to sit and have breakfast or dinner, good WiFi and a washing machine, you can use

Arnold and Donnaly are really nice and great hosts. If you have any problems or need information - just ask them. If I ever return to Granada, this would be my first choice for a hostel.

We booked three days and easily could have stayed longer. It felt like we were staying with great friends. Our room was spotless with a large private bath. Lots of outdoor garden area for relaxing and visiting with other travelers. Arnold and Donnaly were very helpful and full of information. If you want breakfast, they will make it for you at a very reasonable cost. The omelets were terrific. They also have 4 apartments for rent. The area is safe and only about 3 blocks from the center of town.

I stayed here for 2 weeks while attending spanish school.
The apartments are huge and come with a full kitchen and big bathroom.
The hotel is on a quiet street that seems safe. The Owner, Arnold was very helpful with
any questions i had.I don't think you can get a better place for the price. I would definitely stay here again.

This was my third visit to Hotel El Carmen in a little over a year and I can't help but feeling a sense of traveling to see old friends each time I return. Arnold and Donnaly are such wonderful hosts (and quite a lovely couple :) ). They always have a smile waiting when you return home and make the stay in Granada that much more pleasant. The recent addition of the outdoor patio completes the landscaping and makes another beautiful courtyard rest spot. Arnold has a fantastic sense of space and both him and Donnaly have decorated and furnished each inch of the place superbly. We stayed in one of the upstairs apartments which both of my travel companions could not say enough wonderful things about. The beds are super comfy, the Wi-Fi always working well and the fully stocked kitchen makes it such a pleasure to shop at the local market and prepare some great local treats anytime of day. Keep up the great work! We'll be back again.

Room Tip: I've only stayed in the upstairs apartments which are perfect.

We booked a week at Hotel Carmen in a studio style apartment/room (El Mombacho Room). What an ideal way to stay here in Granada! My husband and I are travelling with our little one-year old wild man and having ample room, clean accommodations and a safe area (no exposed wires, outlets high on the walls, solid construction, safe guard rails, etc.) for the kiddo has been so appreciated. You can't beat the amazing weekly rate and Arnold and DonnaLee are perfecty accommodating. The rooms are well thought out and after a few weeks on the road- we appreciated every single delightful amenity (e.g. DIY laundry machine, a blender in the room- we have been having homemade pina colada happy hours before our evening paseos. the kiddo has been loving his banana smoothies in the morning instead of the same old eggs he's been getting from day one :) Getting to cook our own meals occasionally while travelling has been such a money saver, too. I mean, really, how much Gallo pinto can you eat!?!? Book this place- you will love it! We'll definitely be back....

Hotel El Carmen is the best value in all of Granada. The owners, Arnold and Donna Lee are positively delightful! They showed us around town, hired drivers when we needed them, and were very attentive. We were in Nicaragua for four weeks, and if we weren't in Granada....we were missing it! This is an incredible value! The AC worked great, and we had our own kitchen and fridge. It is in a safe area, and we will definitely be coming back to stay at Hotel El Carmen!
