“Great Small Hotel”
Reviewed November 29, 2013

It is a beautiful small hotel. Rooms are very large. The four of us had the large suite with two queen size beds. The room is very well done and comfortable. There is a private bath assigned to each room, although one has to walk to the courtyard to get to it. However, this is not at all a minus. There are only six guest rooms, so it all feels very cozy. The two air conditioners in our large suite were not enough to cool the room entirely, but that was not a big problem. Miguel at the front desk is extremely friendly and helpful. There is a spa attached to the hotel that has great message for avery reasonable price. All in all, this is a great place to stay in Grenada.

We only stayed one night in Granada before heading over to Ometepe and decided on La Bocona. The hotel, just 2 blocks away from Iglesia de La Merced, had a helpful and accommodating staff. There were only 2 other guests so it seemed as if we had the entire place to ourselves. Perhaps that is why we didn't receive the complimentary afternoon snack as listed on their website. We did enjoy a great breakfast before departing.

Our junior suite was beautiful but keep in mind that you will most likely hear all of the street noise, which actually kept me up all night. It was also quite warm but our 2 fans kept us somewhat cool.

Just getting to my review. Been back from Granada, Nicaragua three weeks now.

All I have to Say.........AMAZING! A Five Star Experience.

My stay here was much more amazing than I thought.

My room was huge and the Staff friendly and warm. My breakfast always on point and that great morning coffee always hitting the spot.

Miguel and the Ladies could not do more than enough and more than beyond. Customer service is Excellent.

I found it so refreshing that the owner of this hotel took the time off from sipping wine one evenng to come and introduce himself and welcome me to his Hotel!

Thought of staying at Plaza Colon.........LA BOCONA is for ME and it should be for You Too!

Spanish Colonial all around!!!

Can't wait to come back.

Room Tip: Bathrooms are across from your room, No Big Deal. Had a beautiful fully stocked bathroom and grea...

La Bocona is a wonderful place to stay. The rooms are spacious and are centered around two beautiful courtyards with great flowers, a pool table, and a pool. There is plentiful room both in the rooms themselves and outside to lounge and relax. The wood furniture is beautiful (as we found most of the Nicaraguan furniture to be). The artwork is also a nice touch and is interesting to read about (ask for a book explaining the art from reception). The location is perfect, as it was about two blocks away from central park, but still quiet and serene and a good place to recharge after walking about Granada.

Miguel, who is the manager/concierge, was incredible to work with. He really enjoyed helping us make arrangements for tours, restaurants, and shops. He is also more than willing to set everything up for you so you don't have to worry about it.

The breakfast, which is included with your reservation, is delicious and the ladies who work in the hotel are pleasant. Starting your day with this tasty breakfast in the beautiful courtyard is a great way to begin. All in all I would highly recommend Hotel La Bocona.

La Bocona was one of the best hotels during our three-weeks stay in Nicaragua. We spent 4 nights there, not only to visit Granada (which deserve taking time over it) but also as a base to visit the area (Masaya, the Laguna de Apoyo, los Pueblos Blancos). Like many other houses in Granada, the exterior is elegant but very simple and unassuming. Inside, it's another story: large rooms, very high ceilings with fans, gleaming wood, four-poster beds (very comfortable mattresses, if you like them firm, as we do), sparse but gleaming old furniture. Our room even had air-conditioning (one of those older, but still rather effective machines). The first courtyard (the rooms are all around this one) has a nice garden and tables, sofas, and ceiling fans under the covered arcades, the second has the same but with a small pool (shallow, and not very big, but oh so welcome after exploring Granada in the heat). The overall impression is that of being a guest at some minor aristocrat or well-to-do merchant's town pied à terre a century ago or so. Breakfast (served at table, no buffet) is excellent. True, all rooms are on the outside of the house and therefore on the street; our room had no windows as such: it had three tall doors (apart from the entrance to the room) but these open on the street and are best kept barred (because of heat and dust, and for privacy, as security is ensured by solid metal grilles), and we hard been warned about noise: still, La Bocona is just outside the busiest area of the centre of Granada, and we slept like logs (and this was in mid-August, big fiesta time in Granada, with the Asunción and then the annual horses parade, apparently of international renown), and skylights gave the room plenty of natural light. The bathrooms are separate (in fact they are across the courtyard) but each room has a private one, reasonably well-appointed, and in this climate it made hardly any difference from moving around in your own house. Wonderful place, owned by a Danish businessman and philantropist well-known in Nicaragua (in fact, half of La Bocona's earnings - not profits - in practice, half of what customers pay, go to a children charity). And yet, its best feature is its staff: the place is well managed, the ladies who clean it, cook and serve breakfast are great, and from the moment we checked in, throughout our stay, and till the moment we drove away, we were accompanied by the helpfulness and the irresistible smile of Miguel (anything you need, just ask him). Another of those places we were sad to leave.

Thank you so much for sharing the experience you had staying with us. It is always our top priority to make sure that you as a guest receive high quality accommodation, service and value. Our Hospitality Team enjoyed your stay and I am happy that they served you well.

As you know, Granada is such a special place--a colonial city with beautiful architecture, horse drawn carriages in the narrow streets and all set on a picturesque landscape. We are proud to promote the city's heritage by maintaining the original structure as was built in 1860, using traditional decoration and authentic antique furniture (more than 100 pieces inside our mansion). So glad you loved it!

And thank you for the comment about me personally. It was my pleasure to host you!

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights in July. The staff was friendly and helpful- while I booked everything though Nadine ( room, and transportation), we never met her while we were there but this was not a problem. The staff was available to help us with our needs. It definitely helped that my boyfriend spoke spanish though.

The pool area was very pretty and relaxed, the hammocks were a nice touch.
Breakfast was simple yet good
We did have massages and they weren't bad, massage room located off pool area was nice
While the bathroom is located outside the room, as other reviews stated, this was not as big a problem as one may thinl ( I was worried about it at 1st but seeing the set-up once we arrived, all worries were put aside).

Only bad thing was the A/C- it was pretty weak. Not a problem for us, we definitely kept the ceiling fan on (although floor fan was broke). We were happy they even had A/C.

We had just arrived and were looking for nice places to stay... We found La Bocona and decided to check it out... As soon as my mom saw the bedrooms and patios she said "I feel like a queen" to which my sister responded "and I like a princess!" Needless to say, we decided to spend a night in here. The staff was so gentle, always caring for our requests, friendly, talkative yet respectful. Yes, it is true the bathrooms are not inside the bedrooms, but that's what you get when you stay in a colonial style mansion: old, beautiful designs!
We are definitely coming back to la Bocona, we didn't have the chance to experience the spa but we are already planning our next trip to Granada and La Bocona is already our choice!
Great value, great service, great experience, no doubt! Thanks to everybody (Olga, Margarita, Luis el celador, Miguel). See you soon!!!
