Hotel La Bocona
Ranked #32 of 45 Hotels in Granada

Our group of 5 people were really lucky to stay at this amazing property located in the historic center of Granada. This is a beautiful 19th century mansion converted into small, boutique style, very chic hotel with only 6 beautiful, nicely decorated rooms. Three of us occupied the grand, largest room and our friends stayed in the normal, but very spacious one.
Initially I have chosen this hotel, because it is only one in Granada which has an amazing, medical spa. We had treatments every day: the service was above all the words (very professional) and the prices were very reasonable. Try at least one treatment with the doctor himself (he really knows what he is doing!).
If I have a chance to choose this hotel now, I would go for the excellent (10- star) service. Nadine, the manager of La Bocona Hotel, is a very beautiful, energetic and vibrant woman, and at the same time a great businesswoman (sharp and professional). Perfect English and Spanish. She is one rare combination of very valuable qualities, and she saved the whole trip for us as it was almost ruined by the bus company, which managed to sell our tickets twice. Nadine and her assistant Miguel went out of their way to put us on earlier bus.
They also organized for us a very nice trip on the Lake Nicaragua, where you can see different beautiful houses on the islands.
Piece of advise (where to eat). As you maybe know, service in Latin America is very slow (and Nicaragua is not an exception). So, for really good and reasonably priced lunch try the Garden Cafe, which is located one block from the Central Park.
If any of your friends like cigars, buy some in Nicaragua as a souvenir. They say that Cuban cigars is just a brand famous all over the world, but Nicaraguan ones are much better and much cheaper.
At the moment we are planning another trip to the beautiful Granada. This time a family one. My husband and my son want to go fishing on lake Nicaragua with a local guide, and I will stay at my "Nicaraguan home - hotel La Bocona" and have wonderful treatments at the spa and swim in their really nice swimming pool.
See you soon and thank you again for everything you have done for us!

Room Tip: All rooms are good. Ask for a portable air conditioning unit.

We appreciate the enthusiastic review and all of the compliments! Thank you so much!

I'll pass along the review to Dr.Amos at Balance Spa. His team is so great--I'm glad you enjoyed the treatments.

It was wonderful to have met you and the whole group (all of you are very sweet) and we are very much looking forward to your return in a couple of months!

Hello, we just got married at La Bocona and had an absolutely wonderful time. Our wedding guests included our Nicaraguan friends and friends from abroad-some who travel internationally on a monthly basis and some who were having their first time abroad. All three of these types of guests loved the Bocona for a variety of reasons; simply put, La Bocona was able to accomodate everyone's distinct needs and with the top-notch service and beautiful venue make our wedding beautiful, elegant, calming and peaceful when it needed to be, and a huge party when the time was right! Nadene and her team flawlessly catered to all of our needs --- they know when we need a lot of help and know when we just want to be on our own. In this sense, it's really a home away from home.

We spent over 13 days at La Bocona planning and executing our wedding so we can say without reservations that we would recommend La Bocona to anyone looking for a perfect place for their own wedding. We would be pleased to serve as a reference - Nadene can put you in touch with us if you are interested.

As well, Amos and his team at Balance Spa in La Bocona provide excellent client-centered service.

Last, but definitely not least, we value the sustainable model of the hotel and commitment to the local community.

I have been working with Nadene for the past two years and Hotel Bocona when I discovered them while in Granada in 2011. They have donated accommodations to our organization for our charity auction for the past two years. SASY! Stop Animal Suffering Yes! has been the recipient of Nadene's generosity for accommodations and breakfast which have been outstanding. Not only do they give 50% to their own supported organization, Carita Feliz, but they still give to others in need. The property is beautiful, they have excellent service and outstanding food and spa treatments, I would highly recommend them for their generosity in helping others and it's a cool place to stay! Great location to boot.
Thanks Nadene and staff - you are the best!

Room Tip: They are all great - you cannot make a bad selection.

This was the first stop on our honeymoon. The staff was very helpful, friendly and personable. Breakfasts were delicious, coffee was great and when we arrived on the first afternoon they had a nice beverage waiting for us. The hotel is lovely, it has an old estate fill with very high ceilings, tall doorways, long drapes, antique king four post bed, pool, garden and a great staff! Our room was street side, and the hotel is located on a busy intersection. We fell a sleep both nights to Nicaraguans honking their horns through the intersection and woke up to it, that would be my only complaint. It was a lovely place to stay and it gave me a great feel for Granada.

Beautifully restored colonial treasure in the heart of Granada, a block from the main square. The Hotel was beautiful and immaculately appointed minimalist with authentic era antiques. It has a figure 8 layout with the rooms surrounding two courtyards one which is a garden and the other which has a pool.

Room Tip: The hotel does not have air conditioning so if this is not the experience you are looking for be adv...

This hotel is a old colonial home redone as a hotel. Beautiful garden courtyards, 12 foot doors, and the most comfortable beds in Nicaragua I suspect. Very attentive staff but not obtrusive. The bathrooms are separate from your room: you have a private bath, you just have to walk down the corridor to get there. Seems a bit weird at first but not a problem. Had to do this to protect the integrity of the old home where the original rooms had no plumbing.

Downsides at La Bocona would be street noise early evening and early am. And can't get internet in the room: have to sit in the lovely courtyard to get wi-fi. Not really a problem.

No TV at La Bocona! I love it.

Very nice tea service at 4pm.

Best place I have stayed at in Nicaragua. Will return there in the future.

We travelled to Granada over Memorial Day 2012, thanks to a deal on JetSetter. I contacted Nadine several times for details and to book services ahead of time (airport transfers, spa treatments, excursions). This incredible lady is a true asset to the hospitality industry and to Granada. Full of knowledge and good suggestions, inquisitive about our wants, very detailed-oriented, great back and forth about how to make this a memorable trip (we were celebrating my partner's birthday that weekend) and above all matter of fact and honest. She was totally on target, her advice and warmth absolutely made a difference to our trip. She runs the hotel very efficiently and you can tell all the staff genuinely strived to make our trip special.

We had the double-bed room, never been to such a big room. As the rooms actually were designed to open to the street as well as to the interior patio, you do hear a bit of street noise sometimes. It did not bothered me, found it charming actually, but can see it might tick others off. You can tell the renovations do follow historical standards, very well done. The bathrooms are not in-suite, but you know this clearly beforehand. Spacious, well functioning and clean. The warm water (no need for it really!) worked well too. I personally liked this out of the ordinary set up.

The Spa is out of this world, a must after a day exploring the volcanoes or lake. Great massages, the staff knows what they are doing. We totally recommend them.

The weather was really warm, but the pool helped a lot. Olga's breakfast specialties and delicious afternoon snacks still bring a smile to my face. The tour outfit Nadine recommended delivered excellent adventures and the restaurants in Granada did not dissapoint. We really enjoyed the slow-pace, kind of back in time feel of the town too. Wish we had taken one of the many carriage rides we were offered, it is a common way to travel within the city. Even during a night time black-out due to electrical storms, we feel safe wondering about town in the dark. Kind of unexpected happenings that helped make the trip extraordinary.

Nadine, you are the best!!! Looking for the next chance to explore Nicaragua from your hidden gem of a hotel.
