“Third and for sure last stay here”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 19, 2013

I have been staying here for 3 times now - last stay was in Jan 2013.
The first 2 times I found the place ok especially since you could walk down the beach and find more "local" restaurants right on the beach. You still can but there has also been built more in between and the beach is getting more and more busy.

The hotel food is still the same. The breakfast is not really inspiring and a la carte is not only expensive but also not very good. We ate there once because my son was really tired snd they forgot parts of our order on top of the fact that the food was not very good.

They have turned the resort into a non smoking resort which also means you are not allowed to smoke in their restaurant on the beach! I am fine with smoking restrictions but when you are no longer allowed to smoke outside is becomes stupid in my POV. So if you want to smoke you can do that on your terrace or on the beach.

They also seem to have signed a deal with a Russian package tour company. At least 80% of the guests where Russians. I do not have anything against Russians but when a resort gets dominated by any nationality is changes character.

The bungslows begin to be worn put. They are still ok but not luxury in any way. The beds have seen better days and were for me a bit hard and "bumpy".

They still have too few sunbeds and chairs so it is the usual "put the towel first" game every morning.

My 8 year old son really enjoyed the stay as there were several Danish children he could play with as well as the fire show on the beach.

But for me this was the last visit. I do not like when restrictions become irrelevant and foolish - and I also prefer places with mixed nationalities to make it all a bit more interesting.

Surat S, General Manager at Koh Chang Paradise Resort & Spa, responded to this review, January 22, 2013
First of all we would like to Thank you Mrs. Birkbo for comment on tripadvisor. We would like to get everything straight on our side. We would like to explain about more buildings along the beach. For this we cannot control as Koh Chang becomes more popular and belong to other owners that we cannot control. We try to keep our resort as normal as possible and to be convenience for all of our guests. But for outside environmental we could not control it. All tourists should know things have a chance of more development and also the client should understand that she has stayed in a period of high season that every years and everywhere will be busy and also at our resort, but we still maintain to have more space at our place for all guests.

About the sunbeds, we have 90 sunbeds at the pool and on the beachfront area and 150 deckchairs for the beach and of course some are on repairs. In every morning we will see that there are enough sunbeds to sit on the beach and we also set resort policy that from 07:00 am - 09:00 am the guests was not allowed to reserve the sunbeds which are on the beachfront area in front of the pool as it is the prime area to enjoy sea view. If there will be people reserved the sunbeds we will take the beach towels and their belonging back to reception desk. After 09:00 am it is on a first come first serve order.

For the food at our restaurant about the price we are selling at a normal hotel business price, which is not too different to the outside restaurants and as a hotel business we need to charge for service the same as other places. About the taste of the food that the client had ordered, of course there was a staff, who remember the client very well, went over to check if her food was ok or not but she told the staff it was ok so we could not sort out this matter as the client did not complaint at that time. If so the client should had to tell us then we could do something and make it better. But the client did not give a chance to us and said nothing.

About non-smoking area we do understand that we are on open areas as we are on the beach but the client should has to remember that certain areas should not allowed to smoke. Our resort has a smoking designated areas and non-smoking areas. As our restaurant could not be smoking at table as it is impolite to other guests as they are having their meals and also have children. Of course when guests come to have dinner or launch at our restaurant they can smoke at the beach bar which is not too far to walk from dinner table.

About our rooms since we opened the resort for more than 10 years now but we still keep the rooms as best as possible by renovate when we have a chance to do so. And about the bed it is our standard but if the bed is too hard for some of our guests the can request for our house-keeping to make it softer by put in the topper but the client did not let us know about this.

Lastly about the signs in Russian language or package of tour companies. The reason we have to put up more Russian signs because most of our Russian guests do not speak English and could not be communicated by speaking but better in writing, and they are also the same information that every other guests get in English. Also the information pack is belong to the Russian Tour Operator that they can help their customers in finding information in their own language which they can understand better. If you look further into this we also have information from other agents that it is not just for Russian guests. There are also some for German and other from the Scandinivian countries. About the information Mrs. Birkbo put on Tripadvisor that we have 80% of Russian this is a little misunderstanding. For the past 2 years we have Russian guests around 22% of our guests. This year the economic in Euro zone seem to affect the amount of tourists from Europe and leave the chance for Russian to be able to book more at our resorts. For this we would like to correct that our resort are welcome to all guests and from every nationalities not just Russian Market. We are interested in mixed market.

The Resort is very quiet, the staff always smiling and helpful.
We stayed in a Deluxe bungalow and had to walk 20 meters to be on the beach and same distance for the pool. It could be closer to the beach.
The place is very safe.
The restaurant has a good choice of food and the breakfast is delicious. You can get all type of food, from French fries to Thai cuisine. Our choice was the Thai food, we were not there to eat European.
Close to Resort, at 100m there are small shops, clothes, restaurant, drugstore, grocery, tattoo, souvenir, pubs,... all what you need. If you want to go farther you can catch a taxi directly in front of the Resort.
We asked to the Resort to send us a private transport directly at Trat airport. It's more expensive than a taxi but it's more pleasant and faster.
This place is more for couples who want to spend relaxing holidays than families expecting lots of attraction for their kids.

Room Tip: Deluxe bungalows which have a better location. Smaller bungalows can be located near the road and ma...

I should say that I stayed at this resort in the summer, during the low season. So, there were very few people there and I can't really judge how comfortable or good value it would be during the high season.
The beach was lovely, the pool very nice. The bungalows were ok, nothing special. The bathrooms were rather strangely decorated.
All in all it was ok. The problem was, anything I wanted to do, the staff wanted money... and the internet was expensive and very poor quality.

The best hotel we've ever been. Especially, the pool villa was extraordinary. The staff was friendly and the Spa was superb. The location much better than white sand beach, with easy access to bars and restaurants. It was an exceptional honeymoon.....

Room Tip: The pool villa....

Escaping from steamy Bangkok is a must and once you get on the ferry to Koh Chang you start to relax.
We have now stayed at Paradise Resort several times and have stayed in their Deluxe Beach Front Bungalows and several of their luxury villas. To be honest the hotel side is OK and they are currently upgrading a lot of their bungalows so make sure you ask for a new one.
However if you can afford to splash out (maybe Baht6,000-15,000 depending on the season) go for a private villa all with a decent size pool. Beast ones are right by the beach which is the biggest unspoilt beach on the island.
Rent a scooter for Baht200 and explore the second biggest island in Thailand. Enjoy and Chill out.

Room Tip: go for a beach villa

Everything was great in this Resort.

Rooms are nice and new, friendly and helpful staff (especially Miss Manager, who helps me a lot).

Our bungalows was very far to the water front, and the internet is not free.

The restaurant served good food (You can order to the beach), good breakfast buffet, and Spa.

It is not too far from the White Sands Beach
