The Sea View Resort is on a hillside sloping down to the beach. It's a well run hotel in a great location and we really enjoyed out stay there.

The resort has what is almost a private beach with loungers and sun shades, plus a terrace and pool, also at beach level. Accommodation is in the cottages on the hillside and in regular room accommodation in the hotel's two main buildings.

We stayed in the deluxe cottage which had great views out to sea and a private balcony. The room was finished well, although a little on the small side.

The hotels restaurant was a little disappointing and overpriced. "Porn's Bungalows" next door, and a few minute's walk away right on the beach served a wide selection of Thai dishes.

House staff and the front desk were great; a lot of the rest of the staff left you with the impression that guests were a bit of an inconvenience.

Anyone travelling from Phnom Penh, Google Evolution Tours and make enquiries about the Phnom Penh to Koh Chang transfer by car which we found out about after arriving there via Bangkok.

We think the best place on koh chang. Very clean and the delux-room was lovely with a marvellous few.
Good food with excellent and friendly service. (Judged by my wife, chef de cuisine).
Only the fitness-room is a great disappointment! Old equipment, partly with no function, bad selection! And no further entertainment or bar or sth. else, except every evening the same sleepy music at diner.

What a place!

We arrived on koh chang via a minibus from Bangkok (250 baht pp) then a ferry from tha mainland (100 baht pp) and a trip on a 'taxi' (70 baht pp). Much more fun and cheaper than taking the plane.

The hotel desk staff we very welcoming and helpful. We booked in and we carted to the delux room we booked (3600 baht pn).

The room was quite spectacular with glass divides between the shower area and seperate bathroom area and the main room. Views of the sea whilst showering (or going to the loo?!?!).

Shower was powerful and consistent in temperature and had the added option of a ceiling or wall head (1st for us).

Rooms were immaculately cleaned daily at whatever time they could get in (once it was at 3pm)

Breakfast was excellent, omlettes to die for! Good selection and plenty of coffee.

We didn't use the pool but the beach was private and very pleasant with a good amount of shade and just enough sun loungers. They also had a number of swings roped from the trees on the beach, which was a nice touch.

Because the place is on slope, getting to the beach you have to walk down thirty or so steps from where we were which would be tricky if disabled, however, the golf carts could take anyone to the beach if required via an access ramp.

One slight niggle was that the delux block (which appears to be the newest part of the resort) is quite a walk, up and then down a slope, from the main restaurant and reception area, but once you've had a few drinks, you can definately do with walking it off.

My wife and I would thoroughly receommend this place if you want to spend a bit more on a very nice hotel in paradise. Make sure you rent a moped or a jeep and take a tour of the island. We found some fabulous places just a short ride away.

The Sea View has several things going for it: the location (loved Ko Chang in general and Kai Bae in particular), the landscaped grounds and pool, the beautiful views out across the water, and the tasteful traditional design of the buildings, to name a few. However, as others
have mentioned, there is definitely room for improvement. We got off to a bad start with this hotel. We booked a 2 standard cottage rooms a day in advance via a local Ko Chang tourism website, for 2200 baht per room, per night. This seemed quite cheap compared to the rates advertised on some of the other hotel booking websites we looked at. We recieved an email from the website saying "you will check in tomorrow," but that we should contact the hotel directly. So we forwarded that email, and also the original details of our booking, on to the resevations email address given on the Sea View's own website. However, when we arrived the next day, they claimed to have no record of our reservation, and charged us 2500 baht for standard rooms, saying their cottages weren't available for the three nights of our stay.

In spite of this disappointment, the rooms weren't too bad. They didn't look as spacious as the cottages, but they were closer to the beach with a great view out across the water to nearby islands. Though the floorboards were worn and a flake of paint had peeled off our ceiling, the beds were comfy and the furnishings were all up to scratch. Other parts of the resort appeared newer, and/or nicer but there was also a big variation in price between the different types of rooms (with standard rooms and cottages being the cheapest).
Bathrooms in our standard rooms were pretty ordinary and looked like they could use an update. There was mildew on the grout of the wall tiles, and the floor tiles were coated in built up grime - it looked like layers of old floor polish but it was scratched off in places which exposed the tiles underneath and made the grime really noticable. Most annoying though was the basin tap. It was of the type you get in public toilets: push on it and cold water spurts out for 2 seconds before it switches itself off. Made it very difficult if you wanted to do something like wash sunscreen off your hands. I know water conservation is important but when I pay this much for accommodation I want to be treated as if they trust me to turn the tap off myself! At least the shower unit, though it looked old, worked
well. Brownie points for providing conditioner as well as shampoo too!
Another annoying detail was that removing your room key cut all power to the room, including the minibar. This meant you couldn't store milk
or make ice, or come back to your room after you'd been out for a while and enjoy a cold drink.

Getting back to the positives, the pool was great and the resort has it's own little private area of beach. It looks as though it's been enhanced somewhat with imported sand, but the water is clear, warm and lovely to swim in. The first day we were there there was nowhere to sit on the beach as all the loungers were claimed, but the next day they supplemented the loungers with some deck chairs and there were plenty to go around. There's also a couple of table tennis tables
on the beach, for something different. We rented double kayaks for 150
baht per hour and paddled across to the nearest island, which was quite easy to do within one hour.

The grounds are quite large and it's a bit of a hike to get from our rooms to the reception/restaurant area, but there were little golf buggies zipping around and I'm sure you could ask reception for a pick-up if you weren't overly mobile. We did get them to pick up our bags for us when we checked out. The grounds were well maintained, almost too well in fact as one of my companions started complaining about the incessant sound of the paths being swept outside her room!
The breakfast buffet, whilst not the best we'd had, offered a reasonable selection, both Asian and Western. We ate at the restaurant
one night but thought it was a bit ordinary for the price. We preferred Kharma restaurant in Kai Bae, run by Veronica, a friendly Swedish expat, (I never expected to see Swedish meatballs served on a banana leaf)!

To get to the main strip of Kae Bae you can either walk along the road (only about 300 - 400m but up a huge hill and not recommended) or you can walk on a track that starts next door at Porn Bungalow and follows the foreshore. It's about a 15 - 20 minute walk. We ended up doing that quite a few times, since there's a lack of local transport and taxi drivers always quoted us upwards of 100 baht, even for such a short journey by road. The first time we walked in to Kae Bae, the reception staff told us just to walk around the beach. Unfortunately the tide was in and we ended up wading halfway there before we realised there was a track going along the shore! You have to go up the driveway of the Sea View and then back down to the driveway of Porn Bungalow to get onto the track without getting wet when the tide's in.

Overall, we did enjoy our stay here. The things I've complained about wouldn't have bothered me so much if we'd been paying a bit less for the place, but for the price I'd expected more. Ko Chang was a great place for a beach holiday, but if we ever go back I will stay in one of the cheaper bungalow places - you don't really need all the extras to have a good time on Ko Chang.

The Resort is a perfect place for people who want to relax in a quite becautiful location. We enjoyed it very much and have started to think about when we could go there next.

We stayed in a Deluxe Room which is very spacious. With the windows in the bathroom wall you can have a shower with sea view. The room was very well kept and clean and we had nothing to complain.
The beach, pool and garden were also very clean and well kept.

Some of the service people in the restaurant are not fluent in English but - using hands and foots and a lot of smiles we got everything we wanted and were treated like kings.

All in all - we would recommend this resort at anytime and will try to get back there.
