“Nice hotel but not luxury”
Reviewed March 16, 2013

We enjoyed our stay here but would probably not stay here again due to the room.

The hotel charge 5000 baht for a taxi to Bangkok, we booked it ón our own for 4000 baht all inclusive.

We had booked the superior room. The room is huge and it is a nice room. I would not Call this room a 5 star room though. The bathroom is large and nice.

Unfortunately our room had a horrible smell as soon as we turned the aircondition off. Also the pillows etc smelled really bad. We told the reception and the only thing they offered us to do was to spray with an airfresh which the cleaning never brought to our room.

The walls are so thin so you Can hear everyone in the Hall. This hotel has a lot of families with children staying there so there is so much noise in the morning which ment that we could never sleep in.

One day we only got our 2 towels and no towels to dry hands etc. We asked if we could have a towel to dry our hands after washing and was told that they they didn't have any clean ones that day. That is not the best service.

The room was not clean when we got it, ón the table we could see stains from coffee this was never cleaned while we were there.

The gym is small but ok.

The pool area and the beach is very nice and the thai restaurant at the hotel is really good. In the evening the area is beautiful.

Room Tip: Get a room with pool or seaview so you Can enjoy the balcony. We had a room ón the backside and did...

My partner and I stayed at the Amari Emerald Cove for 19 nights in February 2013. The hotel arranged our wedding on Feb 22nd 2013. There was not one thing that we found at fault.
On arrival we were greeted by 2 of the managers (Mihail and Ruangrath) who were extremely friendly and presented us with drinks and flowers. Throughout our stay any queries we had were quickly addressed and these two managers in particular were very approachable with fantastic attitudes.
Our room was beautiful with amazing views of the pool and beach. The bathroom was huge and the room clean and comfortable.
Throughout our stay the staff were amazing, always smiling and very helpful if we had any queries. The pool bar staff, staff around the pool (giving out towels), reception staff and Mihail and Ruangrath were in particular exceptional.
The wedding ceremony was beyond our expectations. A huge amount of the hotel staff were involved and seemed to genuinely enjoy it. After the wedding, staff sought us out to find out if we had enjoyed ourselves.
Whilst staying at the Amari Emerald Cove we ate at a number of the restaurants. The pool side bar (cove terrace) served lovely food and we ate here a few times. We also dined at Sasi which is the hotels italian restaurant. The food was brilliant and again service was outstanding. Breakfast was included in our room rate and this was equally fantastic with a huge range of dishes and fresh food catering for a variety of tastes.
The hotel provides a free fitness suite which my husband used frequently throughout the visit. Also some members of our party went to the free morning yoga sessions which they reported were great. The pool is one of the highlights of the hotel. Even when the hotel was full there was a choice of sun loungers and the complimentary towels are huge. We happily spent many an hour round the pool making use of happy hour each day. There are also a number of actvities that the hotel will arrange. They arranged for us to go elephant treking and we had a great time.
Overall we had an amazing time and would like to thank the staff for making our wedding day so memorable. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone and we are planning to revisit next year.

Lovely resort on the beach of Koh Chang. We stayed before and after our kayaking expedition with Kayak Chang (who are based at the resort). Good quality rooms and great service.
Restaurants at the resort have great food - we ate at both Just Thai and Sassi (Italian restaurant).
Breakfast was included in the room price and offered a good selection. Our room had a view of the hills which suited us as we were hardly in the room. They are a good size.

We booked this hotel due to the fact that it was the only "5 star" resort on the island. We ended up being a little dissapointed by some points - but in general it was a good stay. I will sum up the good and bad points.

Good points:
- Tremendous 50 m swimming pool
- Enough sun loungers for everyone - and in general good space around the hotel even though its fully booked
- The area on the hotel is cosy and nice. It makes you feel good
- The personel is always smiling and service minded
- Sassi italian restaurant is EXCELLENT and not that expensive compared to european prices.
- Breakfast buffet is huge and with wide selection
- Happy hour is lovely and good service by the beach

Bad points:
- The rooms was in a really really really bad shape. Let me point out the details:
- The aircondition was not working correct - so a strange wet smell poluted the room and all our clothes in the room
- There is visible moisture damages around the aircon - but also around the room
- The daily cleaning was so almost non existing. They didn't clean the bathroom and they didn't change the sheets on the bed (after 5 days) even though they said so. We had to remove them manually and throw them on the floor.
- There was some strange dirt in the ceiling of the rooms and also some strange dots everywhere.
- The furniture is very old and in bad shape. Very old CRT television which you normally don't see on any hotels anymore.
- The minibar was not present apart from the pricelist. Upon checkout they claimed that we have taken some M&M's from the minibar - which obviously was ridicoulous since they wasn't there.
- It was not possible to sit together at the breakfast buffet - 6 persons. They should expect familys of 6 visiting the hotel together and wanting to eat breakfast together.

We complained about the rooms and they sent some people to fix it - but it was not fixed and the cleaning was non existing the day after.

I would normally have been more tolerant to the mentioned points but when you pay 5000 baht per night in Thailand and they claim to be a 5 star resort - it's simply not good enough.

Choose another resort instead - maybe 'The Chill'

We ( 4 adults and 6 children) have just spent 11 days at Amari Emerald Cove. I simply cannot recommend this hotel enough.

Hotel and rooms:

Spacious, clean, newly painted, very well maintained, an enourmous pool- and beach area, the garden is constantly kept top-nice and clean, plenty of free sun beds, large rooms, a beautiful reception area, an overwhelming breakfast buffet and a nice location - and everything is just kept in an extremely good and well maintained condition.

Besides this: the other hotels on the island (we saw a few) were is much poore condition; old and worn out and where not nearly as big as this resort.

Service:

Excellent! A very warm welcome. Always a smile. They hugged our children constantly. The reception-, cleaning-, pool- and waiter-staffs extremely serviceminded. They also helped us perfectly when of our children got sick and had to go the the health clinic.

The peolpe on Trip Advisor who critisize this hotel or the staff are either rude Russians or simply not telling the truth.

This is probably the best hotel on the island and also the most expensive one. Hotel is modern and clean, rooms are spacious and simple beautiful. Staff were very friendly and the food was great. Private beach was very nice and well maintained. Breakfast was very good. All in all it is a great place if you don't mind the price. Koh Chang was a bit disappointing - Koh Kood is so much better.
