Description: Happy turtle is located in Bailan bay on Koh Chang. We offer you real Thai food (if you ask for spicy it will be..), we also have a nice mix of western food.In our bar we have nice fresh coffee, cocktail/drinks , ice cream, milkshakes, fruit shakes. We use no MSG in the cooking and everything is prepared from scratch when orderd,,, so with a buzy restaurant you might have to wait a bit for the food. we think it is well worth it

I came here with my girlfriend repeatedly for good food, then tried the cooking class. The lady was very nice, and taught us loads restaurant Thai words, which made ordering food easier throughout Thailand.

The cookbook was riddled with fun errors but a nice recipe guidebook tossed in for free.

We're staying in Mercure Koh Chang, but went to Happy Turtle for diner several times because the restaurant at Mercure is heavily over-priced (Lisca Beach, the restaurant next door to Mercure, is a bit less over priced, but still expensive compared to Happy Turtle. The quality of food is comparable for all three places).

The food at Happy Turtle is excellent. Both the Thai and Western food. Everything fresh and not over-adapted for Western taste (most places add a lot of sugar to all dishes). The value for money is also excellent. To illustrate, a Coke only costs 25 THB (roughly Eur 0,60), while at Mercure they charge 80 THB (Roughly 2 euro).

The place has a very nice atmosphere. Very cosy and laid back. The owners are also extremely friendly and helpful. They are a married couple; a Swedish guy and a Thai woman. I've had pleasant chats with both of them and they helped us arrange a transfer back to Bangkok with a reliable driver for a very competitive price.

I'd recommend anyone who stays at Bailan Beach (or passes it around lunch or diner time) to eat here.

A little remote, especially in low season when transportation to and from the other villages on the island is scarce. That being said, they have a wide range of dishes and the food itself is very good: I enjoyed a very tasty green curry and my pineapple shake was the best one I had on the island (there was little ice in it for a change so it didn't get 'watery'). As for attention to detail, the turtle-shaped rice was a nice touch. Recommended!

Very tasty and healthy food in relaxing setting. Food is prepared freshly for each customer. They don't use MSG. 'Happy Turtle' has become meanwhile a known brand in Koh Chang as clones start popping up. So if you bump into 'Lucky Tortuga', 'Smiling Gecko' etc. you are not in the real one.
One thing though I missing in this restaurant is brown rice, which is paradoxically not easy to find in Thailand, except maybe a health conscious city like Chiang Mai.
By the way the skinny Thai girl some other reviewers are complaining about is very lovely and smiles a lot.

Since we found this place we have been here every day, twice a day! The food is beautiful and the quality is amazing! The owners are great people who does not hesitate to help you out if you have any questions. They are always smiling and they are super friendly, and so is the rest of the staff!! I would recommend everyone to come here, and I would also recommend you to try the panaeng curry, it's amazing:)
