this place was simply shocking. We are not in any way fussy and got used to hosteling and budget accommodation whilst travelling but checked out of here after one night. The strangest thing (not that I'm complaining) is that the member of staff was not at all suprised we wanted to check out and did not make us pay for the remaining nights we had booked.

The bungalow smelt of damp and rotting (maybe dead stray dog under floor?) the apparently lush gardens from the photos that the bungalows are situated in was in fact a building site with planks and nails strewn all over the floor making it lethal at night. In the morning we were woken up to banging and shouting.

Some of these things may have now been rectified as we were visiting in low season but it was quite frankly depressing turning up and paradise bungalows.

These bungalows are beautiful - lush gardens, charming rooms. Unfortunately, that's where the quality ends.

Let's start with the good: location. That was the main reason I chose this place (that, and cost). There a lots of bars and restaurants within easy walking distance and the beach is only about a 5 minute walk down a short road. Kai Bae beach itself, isn't very big, but it's still nice for swimming.

The view is gorgeous. The gardens are lush and well cared-for.

Also the staff I interacted with were nice, friendly and spoke some English.

Then there's the bad. I'm not a picky person. I'm not going looking for mold behind the toilet or dust in the vents. I want three basic things from a hotel: a good bed, a good shower and free wi-fi. This hotel failed on all three.
Let's start with the number one offender: the bed. There was nothing soft or comfortable about this bed. I'm pretty sure it was just a boxspring with a sheet on it. It was as hard as sleeping on the floor with the added discomfort of feeling the lumpiness of the springs. Even the pillows were dense and hard. I actually tried sleeping ON the pillows one night to add some sort of cushioning between my body and the bed. It didn't really help. This was the worst sleep I had my whole trip.

The shower: plenty of hot water, but not enough water pressure to rinse the shampoo out of my hair and barely enough to rinse the sand off my body.

The wi-fi: not working until my last night there.

Also, the walls are paper thin. These are not individual bungalows, you do share a wall with one other room. I could clearly hear the conversations from the room next to me. If you stay here, bring your earplugs.

If I had not pre-paid for the room, I would have left after the first night.

really nice place to stay for such good value. the bungalows are really nice and only a short walk to the beach. very helpful people on reception and lots of bars and restaurants near by, not that it was at all busy when we went in low season!
