Chill-out central. Come here for hammocks, delicious food, fun people, and giant buckets of booze. Remove any preconceived ideas of white sandy beaches; they don't have them. But the rocky beach Gu's overlooks and the laidback atmosphere of this place can't be replicated.

A typical day: wake up whenever, time means nothing here, and drop into the restaurant for some pad thai and iced coffee. Look out at the ocean and read in a hammock as the day heats up. Head out to the waterfalls or another short trip, come back to Gu's for dinner and start drinking until a group forms and they invite you to take the Gu's party bus over to the bars. Go with them. Know you're being taken care of by Sam and crew, and let loose.

One small setback: On a tropical island like Koh Chang, you can't get away from seeing a cockroach at night. We later stayed at a 4-star place and still saw one. But since our bungalow at Gu's had an open-air bathroom, we had a lot of ants crawling on the toilet at night. A quick hose down fixed it every time, but a little warning from a fellow TripAdvisor would have been nice!

Room Tip: Private bungalows worth the money.

Gu's is lots of fun! If you are 20s-30s and want to relax/explore during the day and then have fun at night just hanging out at the bar and getting to know people, it's a great place to stay. Get the bungalows for a little more per night.

I stayed in Gu's Bay with 2 friends and was really pleased about this place! Nice rooms, beautiful view (if you take the sea view bungalows, 400-450baht), friendly staff, great garden with swimming pool right next to the sea and I loved the thematic reception/restaurant! Of course it stays a hostel but an excellent choice if you're looking for some nice place to stay, outside the loud touristic places on the island... Nice restaurants on the main street and Lonely Beach or Bang Bao Beach is just a few km's away...

I'm back in Gu's, and back at home. The place is still perfect and very quiet in the low-season. Even on rainy days the hammocks are cool and the rain is refreshing and welcome. The staff are as friendly as ever and will go well out of their way to make sure your every need is taken care of. I wanted to add another review because I want more people to experience this place and enjoy the unique island atmosphere. Another reason for this review is because I have just read another review on Gu's Bay. I am impartial and I was present when the reviewer was here in Gu's Bay and it is very un-fair. It says on the wall that you should order food at the bar and the guy complained a lot, about the service, the room and the staff. This is NOT a luxury hotel and no-body here is under any illusions about this. The rooms are basic and functional, there are nicer rooms that are a bit more expensive, but you pay 350-550 baht for a basic room. It is cheap. The guy stayed for 2 nights and went and found somewhere else. Anyway, I as I have said, come here and experience this place, I believe it is awesome and 99% of the people I have met here share the same opinion.

I have stayed on Koh Chang a number of times, in different bays. I can safely say this is one of the best. My overall first impressions were one of surprise and excitment. We stumbled upon Gu's Bay whilst on a scooter manuvering the tricky Koh Chang road. Having previously stayed in party central Lonely Beach, Gu's Bay is located roughly 1 km South on Bailan Bay. There are a couple of shops and restaurants in the sleepy bay villiage, also an awesome massage is only a 5 minute walk I am told.
The feeling when you walk into the resort is breathtaking. The layout and space are all very well thought out and planned, and take nothing away from the natural beauty of the bay. The people are friendly and accomodating, from the owner to the chef, smiles are abundant. The manager Sun is helpful and knowlegable having worked on Koh Chang for 15 years. A restaraunt and tattoo parlour are on site serving good food and artistic flair respectively. The food is tasty and prices are competitive, the bar serve drinks until late, with a pool and foosball table available.
There is a clean pool for when the sun is hottest and hammocks aplenty, overlooking the ocean and a beautiful sunset guaranteed every night. We took the cheap fan room at 400 baht per night, which in my opinion is excellent value for the amenities available; A hot shower and large bed is all you need, as the time spent in the room is minimal. There are aircon rooms and seaview rooms available and all accommodations are clean and gcomfortable. I could not find fault with Gu's Bay, and I did look. But this is truly paradise, no matter what age or budget.

Room Tip: Fan rooms 350-550. Aircon and TV rooms 1200. The fan rom was excellent value in my oponion, dependan...

Stayed last December for ten days and would have no hesitation staying there again if I am ever in Koh Chang. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the rooms great value and comfortable with hot shower, and the food was excellent. A lovely swimming pool made up for the fact that you could not really swim in the sea due to the rocks, but only a minor point. Very relaxing place to stay with a fabulous view of the sunset. Just one more thing. When you walk out of the resort on the lane, as you get to the main road, the restaurant opposite and to the left next to the bike rental/repair shop is well worth a visit. A really nice couple, and he cooks some great food.

I loved Gu's bay so much, I honestly think it's the best place to stay in Koh Chang. Wonderful friendly staff, great views, tasty food, comfortable rooms, pool, sunshine and cocktails. What more could you possibly want from a resort?

It is a little tricky to find, as it's not on the main road, but share taxis know where to stop and the staff speak great English so can give directions. The atmosphere is so friendly once you find it you won't want to leave.

The rooms are very clean but i would recommend you bring bug spray for the bathrooms (advisable for most places in Thailand).

I like it so much I'm going back next week.
