Remarkable!! Lovely and relaxing

Review of Noren Resort
5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Oct 15, 2012
Spent quite some time on Koh Chang and at Noren Resort and couldn't have been more pleased with the experience. The bungalows here are clean, comfortable and quiet - perfect for families, couples or travelers looking for a happy medium of modern comforts and Thai hospitality. They have a delicious selection of food from the kitchen, and the pool area is a good place to relax in the sun and enjoy the scenic mountains of "Elephant Island" around you. Away from the resort it is a short walk to the beach, or try one of the tasty restaurants around the corner. Unlike most resort owners, Martin Noren is always behind the front desk to greet with a warm smile and a helping hand, and the staff is equipped with a smile and a happy "sawasdee ka!" every day. Martin is very knowledgeable about the island and he can help to set up just about any activity you might want to try while you're there. Though Klong Prao isn't among the big party areas on Koh Chang, if you're looking for a genuine vacation spot for some R&R, sun and sand (and without paying and arm and a leg) then you need look no further than Noren's. I would recommend it to anyone planning a trip to the Land of Smiles and intend to stay here during every return to Koh Chang in the future.

Koh Chang is a beautiful island. This is a good resort, but Koh Chang had much better and nicer hotels. This resort is not worth the money.Noren Resort don't have private beach, is not clean enough. They clean every day, but leave the same bed linen, only towels is changed.Noren (boss) is a very good person. Is helped us when we were his guests.Give us a free map of the island, told us where are the best restaurants to eat. We rented in this resort a motorbike near 5euro per day.Breakfast at Noren Resort was very tasty, there were European dishes. The only thing that is not good, the beach is 15 min, away from this resort and sun chairs are of the hotels located on the beach and not be rented to other guests.Hotel which I recommend in Koh Chang is Tropicana Hotel.

Room tip: No private beach

Lovely, clean, modern and comfortable bungalows. Beautiful short walk to the beach, very quiet relaxing area with some really, really good restaurants close by. Martin at the desk could not have been more sincere and helpful for which we are grateful, it genuinely does make a difference to receive such good service. There is indeed some building work being done close by but to be honest it made no impact on our experience. If you are looking for a party location with late bars, clubs etc then probably not the place for you however! If you want somewhere relaxing and quiet (except for the calming night noises of the Jungle in the background) in order to explore the island and charge your batteries then you won’t be disappointed.

Really pleased to have stumbled upon this fantastic high-end bungalow at Noren Resort. A big plus is Martin, the very friendly owner who bends over backwards to help and advise you on your stay in Koh Chang. We have eaten in some brilliant restaurants thanks to his recommendations. The construction going on beside the resort has not bothered us at all as we are not staying immediately next to it. The pool is fantastic and the bungalow is spotless and cleaned daily. Breakfast is decent and for the price of the hotel, I really don't think anybody can complain. Every morning there is unlimited toast and a choice of an American breakfast or cereal / muesli with fruit, tea, coffee, juice. I would recommend this place and would definitely stay again.

We were at Noren Resort for 5 fantastic days. 7 people, 3 generations. We went to the beach, spent time at the pool, walked around the area, went to the waterfall. Mr Noren helped us go snorkling a whole day, where we were picked up at the resort and brought back again after a great day. Every morning very fine breakfast, and service was in top. Nice helpfull people. Even though we had a little rain we had a great time there. We arrived there from 5 days trecking in the jungle north of Bangkok and had a lot of laundry, which we delivered in the reception at 10 a.m. and got back later the same day, clean and folded, ready to wear again, so nice...
About the construction workers next door, non of us saw that as a big problem. Yes we could hear them in the daytime, but even though we had the house nearest them, we had no problem sleeping. We would very much like to come back another time.

We were at Noren for three days and were disappointed. The construction noise from the hotel next door was a near constant distraction. We were under the impression that the beach was just a quick walk away- it was not. Since it was a beach right next to a lagoon the water was not terribly clean leading us to decide that the pool was a better option. But, once again, we were disturbed by the construction. There were also some repair issues we noticed at the pool. We have been in Thailand for a while and are used to hard beds, but these were VERY hard. I had friends staying in other bungalows who had the same experience. The other issue we had with our rooms was the air conditioners. It took forever to cool down our rooms.

Pros- Martin, the owner and host, is PHENOMENAL. He was VERY helpful, suggested the best places to eat and attractions on the island. I feel for him because I think the construction next door could be hurting his business. I wish he were at another location because we really did enjoy his hospitality. Unfortunately next time, we will choose one of the many places available for comparable rates that are beach front.

Room tip: Check to see if the hotel next door is finished being built.
