I arrived really late at night without a booking, and it was really full, but Shaun (the owner) managed to move some stuff around and get me and some other people rooms for the night. I had intended to go to a different island the next day but ended up staying for my whole trip. I got my Padi open water course with Shauns dive company Scuba Dawgs, which was amazing.
I stayed in the basic accomodation, which was pretty basic, but for the price was perfect for me. The huts were on a cliff/hill amidst the trees and looked over the sea. You can snorkel in the bay and swim off the rocks. They have aircon rooms with toilets too for the more luxurious traveller!
The basic rooms were simple huts, with balconies, chairs, good mosquito nets and fans, a double bed and cover, electricity and lights inside and on the balcony. You can even pick up wifi from some of the rooms. Beds and pillows were comfortable.
Shaun and the staff were all really helpful, and anything you need to do on the island, they can sort out for you, diving, snorkelling, treks, taxis, motorbikes.....you name it. They can also book you travel to go to wherever you are going next, so you are well looked after!
The food was really good, and the communal area was great. Its a huge decking overlooking the bay with a roof and just had a nice feel to it, lots of comfy seats and hammocks. It was pretty chilled out but also pretty social, and I met loads of people.
The walk into Bang Bao takes about 5 to 10 minutes, and there are places to eat, and loads shops up the pier.
I have just read one of the bad reviews on here by a gfirl from Amsterdam, and having stayed here I can say that almost every word of it is ridiculous! The walk to bang bao takes no more than 10 minutes, there are some very chilled out dogs by some houses with friendly local people. Its a bit dark, but I found it a really nice walk, and you could only think it very unsafe if you are very paranoid. Many girls who I met walked into Bang Bao every night and had no problem whatsoever, and enjoyed the peaceful walk like I did!
Shaun was very straight forward and honest, and helped me and everyone else I met in every way possible.
So to sum it all up, I would highly reccomend it as a chilled out place to stay, but close enough to the more lively places to come and go when you want.
I could have stayed a lot longer, but you have to move on at some point!
