Great hotel.
Rooms are clean, there is dependable wifi in most of the building.
The best are the great grounds by the waterfront. If you like swimming laps, there is a great 20m lane pool.
The bar is great, try the Dark Horse.
Regarding food, it is great. Don't expect great western food (eg pizza), stick to the fantastic Filipino fare.

I stayed at the Lantaka Hotel for four nights. The hotel is on the harbor, has a very nice swimming pool and serves very good food at both the outdoor restaurant and coffee shop. There is WIFI available for free in the lobby and for a charge in the rooms. The rooms are a bit old fashion but the beds are comfortable and the rooms clean. Mine had a balcony overlooking the pool which closes down early enough so there was no outside noise at night. The bath is modern and mine had a tub-shower and was clean. I thougth the staff were very service oriented and friendly and the service and the product provided in the restaurant and bar were excellent - the staff were very solicitious of my needs, very accomodating and just plain fun to be around. Chris at the outside bar/restaurant area was great. The room price was reasonable in the $30 range and the location was also pretty good. This is a good option for a stay in Zamboanga.

The Lantaka Hotel was once a very nice hotel. Located in a beautiful location. It was a hotel with alot of character and had a beautiful dining area. Unfortunately, over the past year they have renovated it and instead of making it better it is certainly worse.

They replaced the beautiful dining area (which bordered the lobby) with a cheaply constructed seminar room for hosting local workshops. Now, when you enter the Lantaka it is like checking into a Best Western hotel... no culture.. no character.

The replacement of the restaurant was a bad idea, poorly implemented.

Hopefully, they can tear down the seminar room and replace the hotel to its former glory.

Oh... at least the staff are awesome!

This is an old hotel, but still has a bit of charm. The rooms are huge and half of them look out onto the very large pool and sea. The location is very good, near the center of the city but also on the water. Just 100 meters away is the "Paseo", an entertainment and eating pier on the water, newly constructed, which becomes quite lively during the late afternoon and into the evening. There is a population of "sea gypies" (for lack of a better term) who carry on in little boats in the water, for the entertainment of tourists. Bring small coins...

My only complaint: one small roach in the bathroom on my second night. The attendant who was sent to the room to spray the roach sprayed the stuff into the air rather than on the floor(which is where roaches live...duh.). Other than that annoyance, a nice place. I paid 1452 pesos for my room. Expect to pay about 400 more for a second person.

Also the pool is huge!

This hotel is a mixture of the traditional and the modern and both aspects show important reflections of themselves without compromising the other. It honestly reflects the city of Zamboanga and is not just another International Hotel that lives on its own isolated from its local society.I particularly liked the presentation of local celebrations, weddings, business events etc with authentic music and entertainment. It would be a good film setting for a contemporary social and political drama.

This hotel was better and worse than expected. From the photos and reviews, i was expecting less. This is an old hotel. Although the rooms were very basic with old furnishings, the grounds behind the hotel were better than expected. Nice pool terrace and BBQ on the beach every night The food was a little better than average. The service was ok and the staff mostly friendly.

The real down side is security refused to allow my friends, that i was visiting there, to come up to my room during the day. They said hotel policy was no visitors in the room.

I had traveled 10000 kms to visit several friends that i had met online over the past 2 and a half years. They had traveled from various locations up to 3 hours away from Zamboanga to meet me.

I have never heard of a hotel that would not allow visitors in the room during daytime hours.

Also at check in i asked if they accept American Express and they assured me several times that they did. However they never took an imprint at checkin to verify the card. On checkout they said they couldnt process it and asked for anouther credit card....Fortunately I had another card cuz i didnt have any more cash.

I would never stay here again.

For US$25/night (this was in June '07) Lantaka Hotel is the most affordable place to stay in Zamboanga City. It's an old hotel but it has a swimming pool,by the sea, walking distance to several banks & when it's fruit season you can go 2-4 blocks away to buy tropical fruits, price of food is very reasonable(actually cheaper) & service was not bad at all. One thing I like with this hotel is that it's a non-smoking establishment. Their room is spartan but clean & their bathroom has cold/hot shower with bathtub.
The outside bar is a pleasant place to drink & watch the sun/scenery. The aircon in our room was not as cold as we expect but I was sound sleep anyway.
This hotel is actually very close to the city wharf. For US31(2008) I fairly recommend this hotel.
