Stayed at the Lantaka Hotel last Jun 24-26 on a holiday trip with my wife. The location of this hotel is central, as it is near everything there is to see in Zamboanga City. Its also in front of the sea, which provided relaxing ocean views anytime of the day. We walked to Fort Pilar and Paseo del Mar easily.

The hotel is quite old. It shows in the look and upkeep. It even has that old hotel smell (like Fort Ilocandia in Ilocos Norte). The lobby and hallways have confusing interior decors, and are dimly lit.

Our room was decent, had a nice view of the sea, and was biiiiig (old hotel style big). It had a decent bed, airconditioning, clean and decent toilet, decent furniture, and a tv.

Service was good and hospitable - just about what to be expected of a hotel of this caliber. The staff helped us with directions to different places of interest. One thing to credit is how they warmly accommodated my request to keep some food in their kitchen after we checked out while we waited for our evening flight.

The restaurant serves good food. I remember ordering crabs with their special Lantaka sauce (similar to Alavar sauce). Superb!

All in all, this hotel is a decent place to stay. Its not spectacular but if one has simple expectations, Lantaka will deliver.

key to this hotel is location location location. walking distance to local sites, food places.

rooms are a bit overpriced for what you get (hallways are old, bathrooms definitely not yet updated), though waking up to a view of the ocean slightly makes up for it.

staff are a bit clueless (front desk has no city map or idea/recommendations). don't expect great customer service in general here.

Room Tip: get a room with ocean view

Since the 80s, up to the present, Lantaka Hotel has been the only hotel that we have been lodging in whenever we are in Zamboanga City. Though their rates have gone up as a result of inflation, they have improved their facilities. It's the only hotel in Zamboanga City situated along the sea with a good view of Santa Cruz island. Vinta sails line up the beachfront where the hotel's restaurant is located, an ideal place to enjoy your kuracha, the local version of a lobster but much meatier and tastier. You can enjoy your meals either inside the airconditioned restaurant or request to be seated outside with a open air view of the sea. The hotel's swimming pool is also located along the coast where you can likewise view the sea. Beside the pool, you can also try to get at bargain prices, various types of pearls and shell products peddled by locals authorized by the hotel. The hotel is just walking distance from the commercial centers and local malls in Zamboanga, and there is that excellent coffee shop nearby.

Room Tip: Take a room facing the pool and the sea.

We arrive at 6am. We contacted Plissap Transport & Rent a Car (09193161908). Its just outside the arrival area. They charge P50/head for hotel transfer one way. Quite reasonable if you have luggages and kids rather than taking a tricycle (alternate for taxi as there is no taxi in this city)

The hotel was very kind to allow us early check in. They even allowed us late check out with no additional surcharges till 3pm.

It is the only hotel by the sea. The pool is great for family bonding. If you like diving, the pool has a 12 feet deep on 1 side.

The hotel rooms are big. It can actually accommodate 2 extra beds but they only allow 1 extra bed.

If you choose a roadside room (2nd floor) ask them to put you NOT above the restaurant or near the entrance as they have loud speakers located on this part of the ground floor and it can be noisy in the evening specially if there is an event.

The food is great too. Prices are comparable to restaurant rates in Manila. For a hotel, the food prices can be cheap.

the hotel is located near Paseo del Mar and Fort Pilar. It is also near their town hall. All within walking distance.

Most of the standard rooms have 2 single beds. Very limited rooms with matrimonial bed. You have to reserve early if you want this type of bed (6 months at least)

I use to live in Zambo about 25 years ago, a lot of our social life was at the Lantaka, so this was
a walk down memory lane. The hotel has seen better days, the two star rating is valid. We stayed in newer style rooms, but at $100 they were over priced. We had just gotten off a local ferry from Malaysia, a 24 hr journey, I demanded we stay in the nicest rooms...our friend stayed in the $29 rooms in the old part of hotel. His had two beds, TV,air-con, private bath...not that bad. We got free breakfast with ours, he didn't.

The pool is really nice at the Lantaka, and it is right on the sea with beautiful views. The restaurant is newly redone and really is 5 star in my opinion. I got nothing other than great food and we were there for 6 days. I ate there once or twice a day. The staff is very professional and exacting. In fact the restaurant helps the local culinary college train the staff...so the waiters and waitresses are "ON IT"....probably trying to get an A!

Zamboanga has a nice mall, and Fort Pilar Museum is right next to Lantaka, plus the Paseo del Mar a new public park w/restaurants. A great night out, all the families and kids hang out there. Great fun. Across from Fort Pilar is an enclosed area with more restaurants. A newer addition to Zamboanga.

The only thing I will complain about is the fact there are no taxis in Zambo. You have to take a motorbike with a side car thing. Well, that is OK for getting downtown or something but not for sightseeing. We finally, after no help from desk, arranged for a car for a few hours by calling another hotel. There were 3 of us, and a trishaw can only take two, plus they are hard to see out of. The desk did arrange for a car to take us to airport? That was confusing, why could they do that, but not for siteseeing?

Enjoyed the food and pool, our room actually was nice too, with a beautiful view of sea, just hotel not kept up like it should be...it could be a beautiful property, and use to be.

Room Tip: I would pick a room on the sea side, as the other could be noisy.

I heard of this Hotel long before and so i was interested to be there for a visit. Me and my friends were in this hotel just to take breakfast since no decent food service in the city can serve anyone as early as 7 in the morning.

Our holiday break with friends was tight so we made our itinerary for the day by having an early take off for the city tour. By then the group decided to take an early breakfast in their restaurant. That was sumptuous and delicious meal. The food was great and affordable. And so... we decide to have our dinner in this same hotel after the tour and to relax for a while and get fresh air by the sea.

We have a great time there same time viewing the flickering lights of the beautiful Paseo del Mar from our dinning table. I will recommend this place to my friends too.

My husband and I visited Zamboanga again for the second time after 20+ years.and immediately thought of staying at Lantaka Hotel, the same hotel we stayed before. Upon arrival, we sort of having a change of mind, after seeing a new hotel near the airport, but having read “reviews” before coming, we decided to stay at Lantaka Hotel once more. Upon arrival, the lobby seemed to me like a mix-up of different design elements, aside from the existing Christmas décor in March, from the lobby, to the hallway and the coffee shop….but when they lit it up during nighttime…it was a lot better. Looks like they don’t have enough storage room, since tables, carts of plates and utensils and linens off to the laundry can be seen along the hallways most of the time. Food and laundry trolleys would pass through the lobby and even inside the coffee shop with disturbing sound. They should probably plan a backdoor passage for these. The room was clean despite the old (same) rattan furniture, stained lampshades and could have been better pillows. No shampoos, toothbrush ( after 7pm, stores nearby are close so I have to go near the plaza to look for a drugstore), just toilet paper and tiny soap. Near the dresser is a thermo and a pair of water glasses, no cups nor complimentary coffee/tea or water, tv with cable connection but just a number of channels.
We had a good view of Basilan, pier, sea and beautiful sunset, from the room and it was really nice…you know ,you’re in Zamboanga. These are the plus points of the hotel, the location, within walking distance to the city center, Paseo del Mar, Fort Pilar Shrine, very safe place, nice helpful staff….good food. Their coffee shop is cosy, reasonably priced menu, wide choices, good service, yummy durian cake and good coffee. An overnight stay wasn’t enough to get a taste of their specialties. Will stay again at Lantaka Hotel….with a little more improvement with the rooms, dark hallways and disturbing cat sounds that spoiled our sleep.
