We cycled 30mins downhill from our hotel (Essential hotel)
Hiked 45mins downhill with the local kids to the waterfall, you can do 3m cliff jump at the waterfall and swim around waterfall, so remember to bring extra clothing to change. The local kids will lead you back via 30mins short cut.

FANTASTIC! I stopped here on the way back to Mandalay on a day trip to Pyin Oo Lwin, only thanks to other TA reviews. It is best in the afternoon as sun shows off rock and water colours. I am a fit 45yo and took long way down and back, and it took me 30 mins each way on this medium walk. So managable and very worth the effort.

It took about 40 mins at a leisurely pace to get down the dusty path to the falls. It may be challenging for small kids as there are places where you have to climb up/down rocks. I estimate the total height change to be 500 feet. In the wet season it would be rather treacherous - a long mud slide. The return was about an hour. The water is surprisingly clean - it apparently flows through the forest, not a village, and rather too cold to swim for my taste, though there are truck tubes nearby that you could float on.

The ladies who run the shop at the top of the path may attach themselves to you as impromptu guides - and demand payment later. However, they are not really necessary - you should not get lost if you follow the main path and generally keep to the right going down.

This felt a little like a setting from an Indiana Jones film, but in real life. The impression of being in a hidden valley was reinforced by the steep decent from the Dat Taw Gyaik Waterfalls Resort (which is currently closed in March 2013) on a rickety path which no one else seemed to be using. We needed assistance from our hotel to arrange to start the walk from this location. After around 45 mins following a local lad who was asking as our guide, we arrived at the waterfall, even in the heat of the day the cool breeze and light water spray in the air was very refreshing. A single stall was selling refreshments near the waterfall and a small number of local sightseers had made the trek down an alternative route. The return hike back up the hill was very good exercise! If anyone follows the route we took I would recommend you need a reasonable degree of fitness, several bottles of water, stout footwear (I was wary of snakes) and a guide just for reassurance and to mark the way. Other routes as outlined in the Lonely Planet may be more straightforward! All in all it was a memorable 2-3 hour expedition and only about 20 mins drive from Pyin Oo Lwin..
