As the Lonely Planet Guide Book says, "Its neither Royal nor does it have a park view," but it's not a bad alternative as the location is actually quite good.
An acceptable alternative but don't expect the Ritz. It's about a 20 minute walk to the town center and about the same to the National Gardens. A very good location, all things considered.
Rooms;
We had a so-called "Deluxe Room", but found out that there were several types of "Deluxe Rooms". Good sized room with tile floor entry, parquet floor and high ceilings. Flat screen TV with News Asia and HBO. No BBC, CNN or Al Jazeera. My wife and I had a queen bed which was pretty firm. Our friends had two twins which were very comfortable. The bathrooms are pretty old and the hot water is unpredictable. You had to run the water for ten minutes to get hot water. What a waste! One day the drain pipe from the sink fell off and flooded the floor with water from shaving. I stuck it back in and life went on. Plenty of blankets and nice towels and they even provided new packaged toothbrushes and toothpaste every day.
They also provided hot water for coffee and tea every afternoon and a plate of cookies. They do go out of their way to please. The front desk people were very friendly and helpful and made lots of suggestions on places...As the Lonely Planet Guide Book says, "Its neither Royal nor does it have a park view," but it's not a bad alternative as the location is actually quite good.

Breakfast: No buffet. Eggs cooked to order, toast, coffee/tea, one banana.
Restaurant; Ate in the restaurant one night and it was very good and reasonably priced. Three dishes shared between four people was plenty.
Grounds; The grounds are nicely maintained and a nice oasis from the streets.
Internet: Free wireless all over the property but it was very unpredictable. It also took someone on the staff to work with your computer to get it to connect.More
