“Great location, sub-standard facilities”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 27, 2012

This is a government owned facility right on the Ganga. Apart from the location and perhaps some of the staff who were very helpful, there is not much to write about. We stayed over for two days en route to a different location. The rates are not cheap-- approximately Rs. 6000 for 3 people. The ACs are not very efficient and does not work when the generator kicks in. There is a very friendly front office manager and a couple of very helpful people in the restaurant.

The beds are not bad with clean sheets and decent foam.

If you order food, request less oil and spice (unless you thrive on these). The restaurant itself is not very clean.

From this location, you have a very nice promenade leading to the city along the Ganga. If you are planning to come back later, request the staff to leave the gate leading to the promenade open. Otherwise, you will have to come through a play field next to a slum in the night. If you do have to do that, I would avoid grassy areas and tread on muddy field used by local children to play.

Considering there are not many other alternatives, this is a passable place if your intention is to stay over for a short time.

Room Tip: Ask for an A/C room with a view of the Ganga

Were shifted to Ganga Beach (Where's the beach?) because our regular place had unexpectedly shut down. We had booked two rooms for two nights over a busy Jun weekend and unfortunately there were few alternatives in town. Turned out that we were allotted rooms which had a flight of about a 100 stairs. We had kids (ages ranging from 3 years - 5 years) and mother (> 65 years), and they just couldnt manage it. Any way, once we reached, we were in for a shock. The rooms were pathetic, paint peeling off from the walls, no fridge in one of the rooms, ac didnt work in one, dirty sheets, limp towels. When we represented to the reception, they just shrugged and said nothing. Room service and House keeping was appalling. In service menu was prohibitively costly. The hotel has a swimming 'pond' (can't call it a pool), but seeing the cleanliness of the rooms, we didnt have the heart to venture in. In fact, the walk way outside the resurant and kitchen has turned black with grime...Its quite amazing to see it. The place has no beach, or atleast I couldnt find one. The property is isolated and its a good 20-25 min uphill walk to the other places or Laxman Jhula area, from where you can source basic neccessities. Ganga Beach needs to be cleaned everyday for an year, before it is fit for living in.

I checked in the hotel after comming down from Mussoorie. Actually was booked in some other hotel but at the last minute was shifted to Ganga Beach Resort. At the onset was happy to see the location, it is bang on the Ganga. But the reception attitude was poor. The allotment of room took more than 2 hours. The room was also on the top most storey and no lift. We had to climb up and down. It was tiring. The room service was good. The food was also Good. Initially I was booked for two nights but on the second day they refused the second night quoting reasons that the travel people had booked only for one night. I left in a bad taste.

I have being in rishikesh 3 times and stayed in 3 different properties, one of them the great ganga hotel.

Location: excellent, walking distance from everything. Just next to the river. If you are going for river rafting, they will drop you in the entrance of the hotel itself, from the river side. You can walk to the holy ceremony every day at 6 pm, and it will take you 10 min.

Hotel Grounds: Good, better than the Great Ganga Hotel.

Price: Around the same of the Great Ganga Hotel. 3,500 INR per night.

Rooms: Big, spacious. But the sheets of the bed seems to be dirty and the bathroom was clean enough even to say that it was acceptable.

For me, both hotels, are at a very similar standard. Probably, the great ganga with better hygienic standards.

We visited there in the afternoon. Unfortunately, it was scorching hot there. We asked for water and waited for 45 min, but no one came. They served us water only after one of our family members criticized them. Then we waited for another half an hour for them to give us rooms. The location of the resort is good, but the hygiene in the rooms is terrible. We were gifted with many centipede (kankhajura) in our room. Extremely poor service. We had to call them 3 or 4 times for a jug of water. Food is good but the food tariff is like that in hotel Taj. The staff was not supportive. In short, it was a horrible experience.

As my title says this resort has a good location but very bad service.. and I would call it over priced. Service was such that we left the hotel after one day. Food was good and they arranged rafting, which was good too.. Infact as the resort is just beside the Ganges river, while coming back from rafting the raft will drop you directly to the hotel.

If this is the attitute when booking then god help the resort and the travellers!!
I called up agents/ Mr. Bhagat Singh who had given me his cellphone no as well first he gave me rate of 3800 Rs per cottage -when I negotiated and confirmed on mail with another agent for 3700Rs, and then called back, he was surprised who had given me the rate of 3700Rs. since earlier he had said that no one else could give me better rate- he promised to come back the next day.
Next day on hearing no response, I called up and asked for Ms. Deepa. Firstly she spoke and then handed over the phone to Mr. Bhagat Singh. He acted differently and now quoted price of 4300Rs.
I asked to be spoken to his manager but did not receive any response.

I called up again and spoke to Mr. Rohit (whom I was introduced to as a Manager). He took entirely different stance and quoted price of 4500Rs.
I explained to him the whole thing and also wanted to speak to someone senior but did not get a response.

Next I received call from Mr. Nitin who again asked about the problem and then offered rate of 5500Rs. to 6000Rs. These all different rates were quoted within a span of 10 minutes.
I even offered a confirmation of the bookings but they were not ready to book the cottages.
A copy of the correspondence is attached. I repeatedly asked that I wanted to speak to someone senior or owner of the property but I was declined the same.

Room Tip: Never ever try to book!
