Friends of mine insisted on making me walk further than the main street in search of accommodation. They promised me this place was worth it. That was an understatement! Seventh Heaven is an intimate, personal and charming boutique hotel amongst the largely impersonal and characterless accommodation that dot the Rishikesh landscape. The owner, Kalam Singh will go out of his way to make your stay a great one. (Once I had checked out and was going shopping, he offered a room for me to sleep and freshen up in the afternoon, before my train). The rooms are airy, full of light and beautifully done up. There's free Wifi and a little store selling lovely kurtis, yoga mats and textiles from Rajasthan and other places.
I'm dedicating a separate space for the food, which was, in the opinion of all of us who dined there, the best food in Rishikesh! The open air rooftop cafe opens early, and after a bit of sun worshipping yoga, we sat down to a really good breakfast and masala tea. The dinner is what really hits the spot though. I'm Indian and love a good home cooked north indian meal and Kailash's cooking was tops.
There are so many things to love about Seventh Heaven. But it's the warmth of the people-the owner Kalam, the staff-Mamta and Kailash, not to mention the gorgeous little puppy who has adopted them, that makes it a place to keep going back to.
