“Rafting Camp in the Himalayas Par Excellence!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 8, 2012

We spend 3 days and 2 nights at Camp Ganga Riviera as part of our college reunion. This was one of my most memorable experiences. We were treated to a breathtaking trek to the exclusive campsite, the beautiful white sandy beach by the river, great accommodations and modern amenities including hot shower and of course gourmet food to die for. We had a bunch of options for activities including kayaking, rafting, cliff diving. The guides were very professional. There is even a place for beach volleyball and both the nights we had bonfires to sit around and enjoy hours on end. The rafting guides took extra time to impart safety tips and were overly cautious around class III and IV rapids we encountered (3 Blind Mice and The Wall respectively).

I stayed at this camp with a group of 25 my Roorkee buddies just ahead of our Silver Jubilee celebrations in Roorkee. This camp was recommended by the previous batch who had also had a fantastic time here in 2011 - and we were not disappointed! The camp is located quite a ways upstream from Shivpuri around where most of the other camps are situated. It offers a secluded spot truly to get away from it all, yet doesn't compromise of quality. In fact the hot water showers and clean toilets were very much appreciated. Owner Anil and host Anuj went the extra mile to take care of our every need. Right from arranging for camp delivery of some items we forgot to bring with us, arranging for their generator to charge mobile fones of those in our group who wanted stay connected, to providing a fantastic spread at every meal (including the "puri aaloo" and boiled eggs after rafting that were devoured - a much better option than sandwiches; thanks Anil!).

We enjoyed every activity that the camp offered ranging from white water rafting (our groups made it past "The Wall" without flipping over, the only grade 4 rapid in this stretch of the Ganga), kayaking, beach volleyball, singing and chatting sitting around the campfire every night, to hike and walks to the nearby waterfall. The night sky was brilliant and comparable to the sky I saw in New Zealand.

All in all a fantastic experience. Strongly recommended!!

Room Tip: The row of tents at the lower level on the pristine white sandy bank of the Ganga is the spot to be.

Our trip to this place was wonderful. We liked everything about this place : the trek to the camp, the location, the view (looks like paradise), the accommodation, facilities, food, activities, staff. Had memorable three days and two nights full of activities yet relaxed in the lap of nature. What made it truly memorable was we could take our pet, a Golden Retriever, Toffee there. As ours is not a petfriendly country, we can rarely take him with us on holidays. However, the owner couple here graciously consented to accommodate Toffee and once there everybody was affectionate towards him. On his part, Toffee also behaved really well and won many admirers including other guests at camp. Owners pet Simba ( A Lab) is another lovable creature. And so is their cute daughter Keya. All in all, it was a lovely experince and we are sure to go back.

Room Tip: I think all have own USPs. However we choose one nearest to the river.

Had the pleasure of rafting at rishikesh in oct 2012. we booked camp ganga riviera after reading reviews here and they did not disappoint the least bit.
Getting to the camp, the trek is pleasing, i would prefer the trek any day rather than just arriving with your car to the camp. Their location in very upstream, totally surrounded by nature, no rafts crossing by and disturbing you! the white sands are just amazing. They have a cove with placid water tucked away from the flow. They have their very own cliff jumping spot bang in the middle of the camp. They have a stream close by, which has a relaxing waterfall a short trek away. The trek (on paths made for villagers) further up the ganga is also very good. Star studded nights sitting on the sand are breathtaking.
Apart from the location, the staff is also very good!! We took the most isolated tents(the furthest upstream, higher than the other tents) and were not disturbed by any other guest. The basic service they provided was very helpful and friendly. Anuj, the guy in charge of running things, did a great job. A special thanks goes out to Bhandari, our rafting instructor. He made our two stages of rafting (we started from the camp) truly memorable. He knew how much we could row in a stretch, took us from the most rapid parts, made us do body surfing, we all stood on the rafts together, we also all shifted to the rear of the raft and splashed it into the river, and we did more fun stuff.... I envy the life of Simba, the owners dog, it was super fun playing with him. The staff came to know that one of us has a birthday, and the even got a yummy cake(from rishikesh) and some wild flowers in the night!! The food is basic and very tasty! The toilets are clean. Also it is all very economical!!
Our 3 day stay was up in a flash. We had the most amazing time at camp ganga riviera. We were exhausted and relaxed at the same place!! A truly memorable experience!
The uphill trek back to the highway can be tiring. Its best to raft down the final day and have your car driven to your pickup point. The staff at the camp will advise you the same.
The one thing I would want different is that i wish there was no mobile network at the camp! ;)

Room Tip: The tents furthest upstream are the best!!

Have been to the camp multiple times now and each time enjoyed the experience and look forward to the next visit.

What I like about the place – Grandeur of Ganges, tranquility, adventure, hospitality and above all joy of making new friends.

Perfect place to revive yourself and comeback rejuvenated.

I was always reluctant to write reviews for this place, and only reason is that- i dont want this place to be popular and crowded. This place is just amazing. Paradise for nature lovers. Gem of a person owns this property who is always there with near to perfect staff. There are no other camps even visible from this place.
They have everything in there camp itself - Waterfall, cliff jumping, volleyball, rappling ,kayak and most important- proper western toilets n bath (always clean, i dont know how they manage common bathrooms with such cleanliness).
Food was just unforgettable, i still remember what all was served. And yes - Walk to reach this camp is experience in itself by crossing bridges and ridges.

I dont think there is any better camp then CGR and i would love to visit this place again !!

Room Tip: Reach early on busy days and choose your favorite tent.

A very big 'Thank You' to you for taking the time & effort to write up a review for us. It always feels great when the guests one is working so hard to please, notice & appreciate the effort. So on behalf of Anil, myself & our entire team at Camp Ganga Riviera, we thank you & hope to give you many more such memorable trips.

P.S: We completely understand your desire to keep our camp away from too many people, but would love to tell you that we have just again expanded our property & now we'll never have to worry about space;-))

Cheers

I spent merely 2 days at camp ganga riviera with my friends but these two days were by far 2 of the best days of my life. The camp makes you feel so much at home with the warm and friendly nature of the owners as well as the entire staff. My only advice to anyone who wishes to visit the camp is to plan a sufficiently long trip because 2 days is too less a time to thoroughly enjoy the adventure and thrills this camp has to offer.
