Only the best things can be said about our hosts, Thomas & Doro Renn, and the Garden and Sea Inn! We wanted to have a small wedding with only immediate family - about 30 of us in total - and the Renn's accomodated our guests and hosted a wedding that far exceeded any of our expectations! We were able to book all the rooms at the Inn (overflow guests were conveniently located at a hotel only 15 minutes from the Inn) so this allowed us to have full access to all of the rooms over the entire weekend. The Renn's were so gracious, attending to all of our needs! Coffee, soft drinks, snacks and more seemed to be always available. Breakfasts were simply awesome! To meet the needs of all our guests, Doro even put together a breakfast basket for our late-sleepers!

Our wedding took place right at the Inn, the Renn's expertise in hosting events ensured that the smallest details were attended to - from having a table tall enough for a Sand Ceremony to helping us choose rental items, such as padded chairs. Nothing slipped by them thus ensuring a most beautiful and memorable wedding event! OH - and I have to mention the food for the dinner reception! Their chef prepared a choice of crabcakes or stuffed chicken breasts that were so good, I swear, any New York City restaurant would be proud to boast about! Our guests gave the chef and staff a standing ovation after the dinner was finished! Everything - and I truly mean everything - far exceeded our expectations!

If you need a place for a small wedding and desire romance, charm, and comfort, please consider this Inn. Based on our experience, you won't be disappointed!

My family, including our 2 puppies recently enjoyed a wonderful stay at the Garden and Sea. Thomas and Dorothee have a lovely setting for a very beautiful B and B. The attention to detail in the furnishings and decor of the common spaces, in addition to the spacious rooms is rare to find. Eager to please their guests, Dorothee and Thomas did everything possible to make our stay pleasant and relaxing. Their tips on the dog beaches and the surrounding area were perfect. All the family, adults, child and dogs LOVED this place, we'll be back!

The innkeepers were welcoming, helpful and friendly, the breakfasts amazing, and our room wonderful. We had the Shiraz Suite which, among other things, features an attached fenced-in yard for the dog--we loved the convenience and the dog certainly enjoyed herself outside. We would absolutely return to The Garden and Sea Inn--in fact, we may go back to that area just for the opportunity to stay there!

New Church on Virginia’s Eastern shore. We chose this inn because it is pet friendly and we wanted to take our Newfoundland dog to the beach. Located on the property are two of the oldest homes in the county which, along with the grounds, create a very nice atmosphere that harkens back to the beginning of the 18th century. During the winter the rooms in the older house are not available, so we stayed in the modern Shiraz Suite which is very spacious and nicely appointed. The connected private dog area accessed through the bedroom is very convenient for pet owners.

We really like German food and the Renn’s did not disappoint. Each morning a nice breakfast was delivered to our suite. All of the breakfast entrees were new to us and we loved them all. The restaurant at the inn is not open during the winter so went to several local eateries that are listed in the inn’s guide book. All of the food was good and reasonably priced. As you would imagine, the seafood in the area is particularly good.

There is much to see in the area. Among the places we visited were Chincoteague Island and Cape Charles which is about an hour south.

We found our stay very relaxing and would definitely return.

My wife, our 1 year old daughter, and our dog spent the last weekend in January at the Garden and Sea B&B to briefly escape the snow that has blanketed the Northeast this winter. Thomas and Doro were extremely welcoming hosts, making quick friends with our dog and giving us a tour of their extensive grounds.
As it was the off season for the area, we were the only guests of the Inn and occupied the Shiraz Suite. As advertised, this room has a side entrance to a nice fenced in yard, perfect for letting our dog out in the cold morning hours. This suite is quite spacious, consisting of a sitting room with futon and breakfast table, a very large bedroom with extremely comfortable king size bed and huge closet, and a good size bathroom with nice views towards the short walking trails at the back side of the Inn's property. In addition, the suite had free wifi.
Breakfast each morning was delicious and extensive - a different main course and baked goody accompanied by fresh fruit, coffee, and juice.
There are 2 other houses on the property housing the Inn's other rooms, dining area, and a common area with a galley style kitchen and small library. The gardens on the property look to be quite extensive and we were able to wander about them for a nice morning stroll. A decent size pool is set behind one of the houses.
In sum, this is a nice spot to stay close to Chincoteague & Assateague but away from the crowds.

This place is a gem, but not hidden. It is a stones throw from Rte 13, the major north-south artery on the peninsula. If you stay at this B&B, when you return from Chicoteague along the causeway of a hundred billboards, you will be comforted by the knowledge that you are staying in a place that offers solace and refinement. We hope the owners will re-open and continue to operate the restaurant, so that Garden & Sea becomes a self-contained refuge..

G & S Bed and Breakfast was delightful. We stayed in the Champagne Room which was furnished beautifully and very comfortable. Thomas was a very welcoming host and helpful with his dining recommendations. The hot breakfasts were delicious and, since it was winter, were delivered to our door! The inn is dog-friendly, too, with biscuits and dry dog food on hand, as well as towels for muddy paws. It is very convenient to the Chincoteague, Assateague and other MD and VA Eastern Shore attractions. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit in the winter--it must be perfect in the summer!
