They have a limited menu of sandwiches and I generally end up getting the same thing. I wish the food was a bit more innovative.

“Terrible food and wait staff”
Reviewed August 4, 2014 via mobile

After a wonderful day at Mt. Vernon we knew a colonial treat would be the cherry on top, wrong. Our waitress looked unhappy to see us and quickly said at 12 the turkey pie and meatloaf were unavailable. We ordered drinks. My cider was in a small sherry type glass for $4. My 5 yr old was brought a large glass of milk, I asked for a lid and it was switched for a small kids cup. I ordered the hot brown but it came out cold. My husband had the same issue with the soup. When my son requested a refill of milk the waitress said no (I paid the price of a milk 3 times the size). The result we all had to share my water, since the waitress only came back with a bill after she quickly refused the refill and left. Some of the worst service for the big price.

“Colonial atmosphere”
Reviewed August 4, 2014 via mobile

Colonial atmosphere and food choices. Hoe cakes were the best. I had hot brown which is turkey fresh baked, not deli, morn at sauce tomatoes bacon toast. Homemade French fries. All of the food looked amazing. The bread pudding was delicious. The service was great and the entire experience was enjoyable. Check this off the bucket list

“A fun family experience for dining with costumed colonial characters”
Reviewed August 3, 2014

Our family of 5 enjoyed dining for lunch at the Inn very much on our recent visit. On a busy Sat. in August we were fine walking in and being seated immediately without a reservation. There is an adjacent food court if you don't have time for a sit-down meal, but I'd recommend it if you can fit it in. The special peanut and chestnut soup was good and the waiter even gave us the recipe to take home! The turkey pye was great (both kids and adult versions). My husband enjoyed a beer from the distillery there and the sparkling cider was a hit with the kids (but $4 non-refillable wine glass size, so get water too). The shrimp and grits were very good too. The grits were ground at the grist mill. A great dining experience in the midst of a fabulous tour.

“Great Food with Historic twist!”
Reviewed July 29, 2014

We went in expecting ok food but found it was fantastic. We really enjoyed our stop at the restaurant which offer many old world traditional foods. Some of us enjoyed the peanut soup and we all loved the corn bread! A must do when visiting Mount Vernon.
