“A Must See...”
Reviewed October 25, 2012

This was by far more than I expected it would be. An oasis of calm in the middle of the suburban Washington craziness, a truly WONDERFUL experience reminding one of the hopes and ideals of the founding fathers, and a real picture into the thoughts and ideas of a truly brilliant, brave and amazing man, who thought of himself as a farmer.

“Don't miss”
Reviewed October 25, 2012

This is an exceptional place. The grounds are immaculate, the abundant staff and volunteer force are visible and helpful, the beauty incomparable. The tours of the main house can have long lines but very informative. The "cruise" costs extra but is worth it; the cruise boat is large and comfortable. The view of the estate from the Potomac is magnificent and the "explanation" of what you're seeing is well done.

“Very well presented”
Reviewed October 22, 2012

We visited once before about 30 years ago and were impressed by how much it had improved. The house, the grounds, all is so interesting. I recommend getting there early to avoid crowds. The museum and education center are great, don't miss them! Skip the food court, the choices are pretty bad. The food in the inn dining room is good and service was nice. The gift shops have a lot of nice items.

Mt. Vernon is a MUST see. The grounds are beautiful! The tours of the Mansion are awesome, and they only take in small groups at a time. Make sure you have at least 4 - 5 hours to spend at Mt. Vernon, there is so much to see and facts to read, and grounds to see. Make sure you visit the Gristmill and Distillery, the history is fasinating. George Washington was a man before his times. The weather in October is perfect.

“Great place to walk your dog”
Reviewed October 22, 2012

Mount Vernon is beautiful, with such rich and interesting history - and also a great to take Rover for a romp (Not inside the estate of course). Breathtaking views and great exercise exploring the grounds with or without your faithful companion.
