We and another couple recently stayed at the Inn At Montross and opted to also have dinner in their dining room. It was one of the best decisions we've ever made and one of the best dinners we've ever had. After sharing the strawberry pecan salad and the roasted red pepper soup, we ordered 4 different entrees and they all were fabulous. The flounder with grilled peaches and tender crisp green beans, the baked stuffed shrimp, the surf and turf (a perfect rockfish filet and a healthy sized piece of tender prime rib) were all wonderful. The 4th dish was absolutely the best thing I've ever eaten - with concurrence from my dining partners who all sampled it.... amazingly tender grilled scallops with cheesy grit cakes in a butter sauce that demanded a spoon to get it all. It was to die for! We even had dessert, which we never have.... a light cheesecake dish in thin layers alternated with fresh berries and a light cake with a layer of chocolate mousse. All this at prices that were less than some charged at third-rate restaurants in DC. This is a destination restaurant and well worth the drive to the northern neck of VA (and a great excuse to stay in one of the Inn's lovely rooms and visit the surrounding historic area and wineries). The servers are total professionals and you may be fortunate enough to be served by Hella, who is entertaining, charming, and even bakes the chocolate mousse cake. Just go!!

While visiting my aunt, Virginia Clapp, I wanted to take her to dinner at a fine dining establishment and she suggested The Inn at Montross. What a good suggeston! We went on Thursday night for the "chef's tour." The food was excellent, the service professional and the price was very fair. Thursday nights are served buffet style but with very attentive staff. On the night we went, the salad bar was fresh with lots of options, the chef's station had salmon and/or pork loin, fresh local brocolli and sweet potatoes with butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon. My favorite, the pasta station, had a choice of Alfredo, marinara, or a "to die for" garlicky pesto with lots of options for additions such as mushrooms, artichoke hearts, olives, sun-dried tomatos, and crab meat. The pasta is prepared to your specifications by a very competent young man who seems to really enjoy his work. Dessert options included a salted caramel cake that was top notch. We went back again for Sunday brunch which was equally as good. Well worth the trip!

A lovely restaurant. Gracious staff, well prepared and creative food. Just a nice experience !

They serve artisan cocktails. The Mohito alone is worth the trip. Piano music in the background and a foodie menu that does not disappoint.

My husband and I took a holiday/ 2 night respite and chose the Montross Inn because it was beauitful, quiet and hear interesting historical sites and wineries. After calling the Inn and speaking to Cindy, owner/chef, we were convinced the Montross was a good choice. The hospitality is second to none.Ken, owner and gentleman to the end met us at the door. Later, we met other guests...we came as a couple to quietly celebrate a birthday and left with new friends who made the quiet birthday a party. We recommend the Inn at Montross highly!.

My husband and I had dinner at the Inn at Montross for the first time recently, We live in the area and heard great things but had never gotten around to going. We are so glad we did. The ambiance was delightful as was the staff. The corn soup was so good we actually contemplated licking the bowls behind our napkins. And our entrees were delicious. My husband remarked as we left that the evening had made him feel like he had been on vacation. Wonderful experience.
