My wife and I have been making the 3 hour drive from DC to Kilmarnock for years. We always debate where we will eat dinner, but we always stop at Yesterdays. Good food, especially the oysters, good service, cheap sangria, at great prices keep us coming back.

You might pass by the nondescript white storefront with little notice, but that would be a mistake. At the recommendation of Inn at Montross innkeepers, we went to Yesterday's for supper. They had several nice dinner specials, including a steak and a chicken picatta. Our party enjoyed the picatta, homemade chicken & dumplings with collards, an appetizer of coconut shrimp, & side salads. Everything was delicious, fresh and hot. We finished off with a slice of moist, rich carrot cake reminiscent of Grandma's!

We were surprised that they offered alcohol on a Sunday in rural VA. but they had a $2 Sangria special. It was a case of getting what you paid for, but not undrinkable.

We found Yesterdays Family Restaurant after visiting Stratford Hall. We were tired and this is the first restaurant you encounter on rt 3 South of Stratford Hall. As you approach, it looks like a very nice place. The dining room is clean, appealing but small. There is an outside dining area. We arrived after 2:15, long after the lunch crowd was gone. The service was still terrible. The waitress took the locals' orders without debate, but kept badgering us about the more expensive multi-course meals...which we were not interested in at lunch time. She pushed the mixed drinks, which did not seem appropriate to us at lunch time. Two sets of locals got waited on, served and out of there before our meals arrived. I ordered the blackened chicken caesar salad which was supposed to come with tomatoes, but didn't. If it had any dressing, it wasn't evident. It took 15 minutes before we could get the waitress's attention to ask for the tomatoes and more salad dressing. Our drinks were not refilled. The portions are huge. Fresh baked bread is served which is very good. The waitress did ask if we would like another serving of bread, but took forever to bring it to us. I agree with another reviewer about the owner. He was yelling at a waitress as we left. I think this restaurant may be very good, but that we were there on an off-day.

Food is good, especially the fried oysters. Owner is a bit of a jerk. He berated one of the waitresses in front of us and brought her to tears. Just because of that we rarely go anymore.

We had a late night meal here this weekend and it was beyond amazing. We live in Northern VA, metro DC and we have ate at many restaurants. The chiefs around DC have nothing n this place. It was beyond anything we have ever had a restaurant. I have a seafood platter, my son had surf and turf, and my son and husband had two different chicken dishes, everything was the same, GREAT! We will be back and once again try to talk the owners into opening a place further north.
